4 Simple Tips For House Training Your Puppy – Dogs Trust Dog School
House training is toilet training your puppy
to go in a particular place.
Usually outside the house or another preferred location.
Once you get your new puppy
home the earlier you do this the easier
it will be.
So good routines are when we
think about, when we first wake up in the
morning the first thing we do is put the
puppy outside.
Rather than carrying and
taking the puppy we leave the puppy
outside, encouraging them to follow us
and so we need to make sure we’re giving
them lots of opportunity.
A really good tip is every time they finish doing
anything, we get them outside.
So if they finish sleeping straight outside, if they finish doing a really good play session
outside, when we’re finished eating, outside too.
It’s getting to read the body language of
your own puppy.
Going round in circles,
sniffing a lot, going to the door.
If a puppy does have an accident then
what we need to do is kind of really
give the area or a good clean.
That’s going to kill any of those residual
smells that are detract the puppy back
to that area and what we want to do is
kind of spot those signs encourage them
outside as quickly as we can and we’re
going to reward them for that.
So we’re going to either give them a little treat
or we can have a game with them as well
kind of let them know that that was
really good and that’s what we want.
