Cockapoo has been with us since the 1960s.
The product of a Miniature or Toy Poodle crossed
with a Cocker Spaniel, the Cockapoo is known
for his sweet and often clownish personality.
The Cockapoo is a lap dog, but he is also
intelligent, and easily trainable and quite
the little athlete.
His affectionate nature combined with his
good looks makes him one of the most popular
of the designer dogs.
And, being the oldest, he is also one of the
most consistent when it comes to traits to
expect from this dog.
8.
Maltipoo
There’s no denying that the Maltipoo, often
called a Moodle, is a cutie.
What really grabs you is this cute little
dog’s persona.
Because of his loving and fun-loving nature,
grown-ups, as well as kids and seniors, will
love him.
A cross-breed between a Maltese and a Toy
or Miniature Poodle, the Maltipoo is usually
non-shedding and his small size makes him
an excellent companion for apartment dwellers.
He loves life, and his perfect day includes
playing games, going for a walk, and racing
through the house.
He enjoys long cuddles and is sensitive to
his people’s wants and needs.
Like most of the hybrids on this list, he’s

or Miniature Poodle.

oldest Designer Dog breeds, developed back
in the 1950’s.
The Peekapoo is a loving and loyal dog who
is dedicated to his family.
An ideal lapdog, he delights in being part
of every family activity.

wee Yorkshire Terrier and cross it with a
toy poodle, you get a hybrid that is beyond
adorable.
The Yorkipoo is friendly, playful, smart,
and cute as all get out.
His small stature makes him best suited to
a home with adults or older children and he’s
quite comfortable in a small apartment.
He’s an active and sometimes mischievous
dog, but he does have a sense of humor.
He has plenty of energy to be burned off and
he loves to play when he’s not parked on
your lap watching Animal Facts.
And, his ability to run at supersonic speeds
and jump like Jordan can be surprising to
those who aren’t expecting a cute, little
canine Superman.
5.
Pomapoo
If you are looking for a small-breed dog that
possesses the affectionate nature of a Pomeranian
and the intelligence of a Poodle, the Pomapoo
may be the right Doodle Dog for you.
This Pomapoo is known for his loving and affectionate
nature as much as for his small size and big
personality and no less than a bit of cuteness.

by nature, though he may have more Pomeranian-like
tendencies and be reserved around strangers.
But, he may also be fairly outgoing at times,
and eager to make friends.

Shihpoo
Shihpoo … wait, can I say that on YouTube?
Anyway.
The Shihpoo is obvious a Shih Tzu cross that
is always cute with an alert expression and
sturdy body.
He’s friendly and outgoing, and has a high
level of intelligence and trainability, although
some can be a bit on the hard-headed side.
So, what’s up with all these weird names?
The naming conventions used for Designer Dogs
is what is called a portmanteau, which is
basically combining to words.
It started with breeds like the Cockapoo and
Peekapoo and later the Labradoodle and just
sort of stuck.
Although, it does lend itself to some pretty
obvious puerile humor with Shih Tzu mixes.
Can you guess what a Jack Russel Shih Tzu
mix is called?
OK, back to the list.
3.
Chipoo
By this point, you should probably be able
to figure out that a Chipoo is a toy poodle
chihuahua mix.

as some of the other dogs on this list, but
the Chipoo is loving and affectionate with
his people.
He is a great companion dog and loves to be
part of a family environment.
He loves to play, is quite intelligent, considered
easy to train due to his desire to please.
He is also known to be quite independent,
turning any space into his own personal play
zone – including a small apartment – so
