Basic Dog Training Techniques : How to Correct Your Dog’s Behavior
On behalf of Expert Village, I’m Carl Puentes
from K-9 Solutions in Miami, Florida and today
I am going to show you dog training techniques
from my new book, “Who is Training Whom”.
Okay when you are going to correct a dog you
want to make sure that your hands are together;
left one down, right one up. Almost like holding
a bat. Your hands shouldn’t pass your waist
and shouldn’t last more than 1 second. Always
do it to the side. The jerk to the side and
your hand comes back down like a spring. If
it lasts too long, more than a second you
are doing it the wrong way. So you want to
make sure that you never pull this way. Always
to this side and up. You say no at the same
time. Eventually replace the corrective jerk
with just no because no is really going to
be something to the dog in that case. Try
not to jerk and say no. He may be thinking
about doing what you want him to do like sit
let’s say and now you are saying don’t sit
after all. So that could be pretty confusing.
Dog training should be a fun time for you
and the dog and so once you put yourself in
your dog’s spot, everything turns around a
whole bunch and these training commands are
useful. You know they are practical and use
them everyday and could save your dog’s life
one day. On behalf of Expert Village, thanks
for watching.
