BEAGLE – KNOW YOUR BREED
And we’ve got Bugzy here who’s a Beagle, very popular breed right now
specially in our cities most people
think they want a small dog with a short
coat and they go and get themselves a
beagle so here’s what it is, the Beagle
doesn’t make a brilliant pet to have
absolutely to understand anything when
we look at a breed and problems related
with training or behavior we look at
what the dog was bred to do. What was the Beagle bred to do? The Beagle was bred
initially as a hunting dog so the Beagle
would live in a pack with other Beagles
and when there was a hunt the beagles
would all go out on a hunt together and
they’d be hunting some poor little fox,
foxrs are all too clever so the Beagle
would go out ahead of man, hunt the Fox
on and find out where the poor
animal was hiding to the fall and this
could go on for miles of terrain the
Beagle would then look at the Fox in
maybe a burrow hold in there till a man
would come and of course take care of
the poor fox so you can see the Beagle
was bred to be a very independent dog
had to have a mind of its own and have
to make independent decision and can be
very strong with it wasn’t meant to
leave the track meet with it with Victor
if you’ve got a beagle at home all these
words would sound really familiar
strong-willed dog very intelligent got
its nose to the ground all the time and
that can be a problem with you if you’re
a pet owner specially in the city it’s gonna be difficult to
train the Beagle. The first thing when
you get a Beagle home is teaching how to
come back when called because what in
the natural state when the breed was
created it was never bred to come back
when called was taught go out and do your
own thing, so instinctively Beagles don’t
like to come back, so recall is a number
one training issue with Beagles so when
you get your puppy start training the
recall at an early age and that is super
important with Beagles because if you
don’t teach it to come back you can’t
leave it free in a large garden or path
to play to see won’t come back and the
Beagle does need that freedom you also
need to incorporate a lot of mental game
with your Beagle in training it’s not
just two walks a day that will suffice
this job if he doesn’t get enough mental
exercise will drive you upside down will
turn your house upside down will become
destructive to make sure your dog if you
get a Beagle remember they need are in
my opinion
twice as much mental and physical
exercise than maybe a labrador would
need so do think twice before you get a
Beagle but otherwise if they are bred
right they can turn out to be the most
loving dogs extremely good at
manipulating because it means cute faces
with these super melting eyes you’re
going to be giving in to them all the
time whether they’re begging for food or
any of that but otherwise really easy to
Train fun to train dogs very loving they
get along brilliantly with kids and
they’re also very good in social without
the dogs why because they were always
kept in a pack with the other dogs,
sociably excellent dogs to have but
honestly because it’s a small dog very
little to worry about health-wise you
need to keep your Beagles coat clean and
well-groomed most people think it’s a
short coat but remember the
Beagle shed twice as much as any other dog
might like say a Cocker Spaniel would so
even though it doesn’t seem to have long
flowing fur the Beagle will shed so be
ready for lots of black and white hair
all over your home
only problem I’ve noticed with the
Beagle is because is so popular so much
in demand lots of people are breeding
them wrong and these dogs are turning out to have bad temperament
Also, the other problem I faced with
Beagles is that they tend to end up having
excessive aggression not because it was
bred into them but because they don’t
get enough outdoor exercise so I do get
to see a lot of that in people so if
you’re bringing home a Beagle do
remember check the parents if you get
parents of good temperament your Beagle should turn out to be well temperament
is it work but remember you got to have
the time and energy to make sure your
Beagle gets plenty of metal and physical exercise if you can do that you’ll
have one of the most loyal fun dogs
living with you completing your families
for many many years!
