this is the bare chair this is where I
look to sit and look for bear tracks in
the morning sit right on here and it’s
homemade by Mike Thorman quite
comfortable and when it’s real dark I
will carry a flashlight with me to see
the tracks also
you
well phone track here that looks like
they’re working to get it off the road
which means we’re trying to walk the
road and we got to find out which way it
goes we’re going to put some cold trails
down like to look up in front and see
there’s kids on top of the box of the
dogs died your dog fall back
and you’re on the bear hopefully they
got a jumped I don’t know they’re cold
tracking so how can you tell the
difference here you tell the difference
in the barking or voice and stuff how
will this is when they jump it I’ll bark
a lot more in SAT yeah they get excited
they’re sounding pretty good right now
dogs yet treating here hopefully they
got a bear and tree not a raccoon bed
get a girl so who are the guys we were
running with today my sons I’ve got
three sons and their wives and the
grandkids and we just come up here and
have a good time there were my grandkids
I got 14 of them and I think all of the
three were here today well it’s just I
think part of life you got a they gotta
get off the couch they seem to like it
so we just keep on doing it when I first
started and we went to the U P we run
bear lots of bear but we never treated
and we kind of changed our philosophy on
our dogs and read a little more tree dog
into them and my boys just really like
it and pulling them hard and it seems
like the last I’d say 15 years we’ve
finally got it kind of tuned to where we
can get him get him started and get him
treed that’s the key right there toward
us they have a start dogging and I think
you better have a pretty good tree dog
too because when you back him dogs off
that tree and I Bears had time to catch
his wind he don’t stay that rail on he’s
down on the ground going again
we pull the dog’s back off a tree and
start it out she decided it was time to
come down there guys are still up there
though we’ll go find another track and
leave these two grow up there no worse
for the wear are they know they can go
an old distance put on the track and
maybe went three-quarters of a mile and
read we just treated a sow and two cubs
which is we got out of there as soon as
we realized they were little cubs up
there but that’s exactly why we need to
drag roads so the Barrett dogs rigged we
knew there was a bear there we let go
now we got a sow and two cubs if we
could just drag an old tire room down
the road we would have known that was
the sound Cubs and we would have never
put down on that’s that’s our reason for
wanting to do that because we’re all
about the resource these people don’t
hardly these group of hunters hardly
ever kill bears just the kids basically
now so that’s what we’re worried about
helping a resource so a lot of people
have misconceptions about bear hounds
they think that these dogs are mean and
tear into kids and bears and they’re
actually very very soft gentle animals
you can treat them if they have wounds
or to clip their toenails or to clean
their ears of the softest easiest
animals to work with I’ve had to clean
poodles ears before that we’re way
harder than these guys bear hounds are
gentle with children and any age people
there is nothing like
yeah
well some guys found the track about six
miles from us and we are getting there
with all due haste
I like the dogs I like the excitement it
goes from minutes of sheer total boredom
to unbelievably exciting adrenaline
filled Stace
well we heard with the bear across the
road at Bear Hollow is what we call it
and we get up here as fast as we could
and we were just able to see the bear
across the power line with another lead
dog there and we were able to cut a few
more dogs to it and they’re heading to
the river
we’re just off the road run get a little
more action there across the road
punch dogs got dumped some are going
right some are going on
laughter they’re right oh I was studying
the GPS the available GPS about the move
the truck and quarter mile ahead when
the bear almost run into the bumper
technology wonderful thing
I had a vehicle or a bird dog I think
since I was six years old some some guys
like the bait hunt some guys like the
deer hunt some guys like to run dogs
that’s whatever your heart desires
really
