Corgi owner says she was scammed by fake online breeder
well it’s a scam targeting dog lovers
fake Corgi breeders selling the pups on
a bogus website the San Antonio woman
says they were so convincing
she is now out more than $1300
Eyewitness News reporter Elysia nyada’s
has more I just recently finished
spreading my husband’s ashes in Hawaii
and I was thinking to myself to have a
brand-new start I would love to get a
new puppy I love my Corgi and so I
thought what better than to have a
friend for him
Esther Pippa Lee bought her first Corgi
Walter online this time Esther went for
a smaller business to buy the dog
surfing online she came across pure
breed Corgi pops calm the website looked
extremely legitimate the people were
very friendly asked a lot of questions
there were emails that went back and
forth the company said it was based out
of Atlanta Georgia look at that face we
were real excited about it and then the
shoe dropped the company sent over an
adoption agreement requiring Esther to
do a Walmart to Walmart money transfer
of eight hundred dollars to pay for the
dog and the delivery to her house
received confirmation from then that
they had received payment that they were
gonna put the puppy on a plane on Monday
so it was happening fairly quickly and
this is the dog that we actually were
trying to purchase so the next morning
after receiving what appeared to be a
flight itinerary for the dog the company
contacted Esther again telling her a vet
suggested a temperature-controlled
crate during flight without hesitation
she sent the $588 via Western Union here
I was thinking okay I’ve paid for the
dog through Walmart to Walmart now I’ve
gone to Western Union it did peak a
little bit of curiosity on my part then
another email from the company
Esther needed to send over an additional
nine hundred seventy eight dollars for
pet life insurance so the dog could
leave from its layover in Chicago that’s
when it clicked so now a licensed
insurance agents so I knew when they are
asking for pet life insurance that they
didn’t know what they were doing she
filed a police report through Western
Union and found out she isn’t the only
victim of this elaborate scam to prevent
this from happening to you the Better
Business Bureau recommends you do your
research visit the breeder first
beware of breeders who seem overly
concerned with getting paid don’t pay
via wire transfer don’t be fooled by a
slick website and consider adopting from
a local animal shelter this is the
actual website which is now toy Corgi
puppies common Buster now plans to
spread the word about this scam on
social media
something about corgis and you’ll you
see why because they’re so cute at least
