Dachshund Club of America, Inc show, Sacramento 2014
you
dogs have been so therapeutic for me
even growing up as a kid I started when
I was 12 years old sometimes you don’t
have good days you have good days and
you have bad days and on my bad days
especially I go home to my dogs and
everything is alright and that’s why I
will always have a dog till the day I
die because they are they’re good for me
they’re good for your soul I think
probably the most commonly asked
question is how can you choose one dog
over another when they all look so
beautiful
and let’s face that all these dogs are
interred in the show because people they
they have they think they have a show
dog because they bought a show dogs are
bred a show dog and they are show dogs
but my job as a judge is to pick the dog
that comes closest to the AKC standard
the American Kennel Club puts out a
standard for each breed and as a judge I
am supposed to choose the dog that comes
closest to that standard in other words
they have a certain standard for how the
dogs eye is supposed to be shaped and in
this case I’m looking for an
almond-shaped I am looking for balance
in the dog the front part of the dog
should always balance with the rear part
of the dog I want a dog that moves
correctly reach and drive is very
important the way the dog reaches in
front and drives in the rear look when
you see me go over a dog with my hands
I’m feeling poor conditioning out this
is a dachshund is a dog that’s bred to
go underground I want to make sure that
this dog isn’t soft muscles I want to
feel that there’s good muscling so
there’s a lot that goes into it and what
I do in selecting one over the other I
choose the dog that has the most pluses
and the dog that has the most pluses
that gets first and so on down the line
first second third fourth when you’ve
done it as long as I have it’s it’s
