Do french bulldogs have breathing and health problems
Frenchie medical issues that could occur
cleft palates and harelips are pretty
common in French’s is because of the
combination of the short body the
brachiocephalic head and screw Tao that
is in the breed French bulldogs are also
prone to a problem called hermie
vertebrae this is an abnormality of the
spine and chest largely due to the dogs
structure they can also suffer from
defects in the lumbar area in the form
of definite kinking or twisting of the
spine these defects will cause
detrimental effects as the puppy
develops unfortunately with the French
Bulldog being a short Wadud breed it
will tend to have more defects
attributed to its spine than other long
bodied breeds so please bear that in
mind if you are at all worried about any
type of spinal defect that your Frenchie
puppy may or may not have then get an
x-ray done on your blog dog spine and it
will put your mind at rest
you can have your puppy checked from
about 6 to 8 weeks if you suspect a
spine defect if you are breeding then an
x-ray around 12 to 15 weeks will also be
a good time to check
another not so common issue the Frenchy
may suffer from is called hip dysplasia
this is a result of loose or shallow
hips on your French bulldogs hind legs
knee issues or stifles can also occur at
times in French bulldogs but this is
pretty rare and not something that you
should worry too much about but it is
worth matching it here buck problems are
also quite common in the older Frenchie
say five to six years and up this can
lead to hind leg dysfunction and even
complete paralysis of the hindquarters
if you are worried about any back issues
that get your Frenchie down for an x-ray
most French’s respond well to
anti-inflammatory treatment and
arthritis medication including rest
thanks for watching
