Dog Behavior Q&A #162 Puppies!!!!
what’s up everyone it’s jeremy majors here with the majors academy dog training out of green bay wisconsin and this is dog behavior q a episode 162. we’re going to talk about puppies why because i got a new puppy i got a golden retriever man a golden retriever that’s right so many people are shocked 15 comments so many people are shocked because i don’t have a golden retriever dang i mean wait because i don’t have some sort of bully breed i got a golden retriever i went the total opposite but let me explain why i did that okay because listen i grew up first dog boxer second dog doberman third dog german hey german shepherd third dog german shepherd these are the dogs that i grew up with okay so i grew up with some you know some assertive dogs but times have changed for me you want to know why times have changed for me because i’ve matured as a person and i have also he’s fine he’s fine and i’ve also have different goals now with dogs i want this dog to be a hunter man cheers b uh oh yeah we did have a jack russell very short we had a a jack russell he was special though you know he came from working lines we had him a very short period of time we just he just didn’t fit our lifestyle you know his name was frazier he was awesome for a while but i mean he was he was bred to hunt man and for you wanted them to be a pet a pet dog and he just wasn’t that that that dog was turned up so uh anywho i have we’ve had all these protective awesome family dogs now it’s time to get a golden retriever because i want to do some upland hunting i want to do some hunting but i also want reggie to have a good friend a best friend he loves dogs and um so i’m looking for both both pet and hunting dog all right that’s what i’m looking for i don’t know what you’re looking for but that’s what i’m looking for okay so i should mention that um there’s been some controversy somebody has said that maybe seven weeks was a little too young and i want to address that because you know while that that is certainly opinions vary when it comes to what age to bring a puppy home is it seven weeks is it eight weeks is it 10 12 weeks there’s a lot of different opinions about it but my opinion comes from a breeder who’s had many many litters and when you observe litters obviously you’re observing their personality because when i asked for a uh my breeder and i had a conversation and we said and i said this is what i’m looking for in a dog and i’ll tell you what i’m looking for i told i told her i want a dog who’s driven to hunt but not too driven to where they can’t take direction from a human and i also on the other side of it i don’t i i want a dog who can be chill and relaxed um but but not totally unreachable not totally unm unmotivated so i wanted to get in between the two i wanted to get a motivated dog and i also wanted to get a chill dog so that breeder was awesome because the breeder said okay here’s my seven females because i wanted a female here’s my seven females here’s videos of all of the females you pick the top three you want okay awesome what a wonderful opportunity um this breeder is named the the name of the the kennel is muddy goldens okay muddy goldens and we’re gonna go into uh you know what i see as as as a temperament for my dog right now the dog is not even eight weeks yet the dog will be eight weeks saturday so okay let’s talk about that all right so again i wanted a dog i told the breeder what i wanted she said here’s my females tell me what you think based on what i saw in the video i saw two females out of all the videos that although all the videos that she sent me i saw two females go pee right away when they were outside she sent me videos of all dogs outside and what they did when they were first not first i don’t know if they were first introduced outside at this point but they were outside and she was there with the camera talking sweet this and that you can sort of get their personality from what from that video that she sent me so two of the females along with their description two of the females went p right away now this tells me as a person who observes dogs peeing all the time and especially females because when a female decides to pee more than once or poop more than once it tells you about their personality there’s something about their personality that makes them want to mark their territory it tells you that they are a little bit more sassy dominant whatever whatever the hell you want to call them and two of the females in that video in those videos that she sent me did that so i said i want those two those are my first two choices autumn was her name that the breeder gave her autumn was one of the females my first choice too she peed right away i said that dog is marking so that means this dog is going to be good in hunting uh this dog is going to be a good hunter because marking their territory and hunting are tied together it’s it’s kind of on the under the umbrella of being assertive i want to pee to let people know uh dogs know who i am and i want to hunt because i’m i’m i’m just driven that way a submissive dog you know pees once and whatever and maybe doesn’t hunt as well so what i was looking for right away was a dog who would be marking their territory right away i should tell you guys we are live on facebook and youtube just so you know but anyway back to what i was saying so female dominance equals how many dumb does your dog does your female some dogs are so dumb some females are so dominant they will lift their leg to beat and we know that dogs lift their leg to pee to to try and be to try and seem as big as possible to other dogs so if you’ve got a female who’s lifting their leg you know in my opinion they’ve got an ultra uh dominant personality on a very controlling personality and just to be aware of that would be very good because you now know how to maybe handle some of their behavioral challenges um so all right that’s my pup man um she’s she’s awesome um so far um let’s see she was she’s been very easy to potty train the first couple nights were tough obviously she may be going through withdrawals of being away from her mother being away from her litter because she wanted to snuggle she wanted to be warm she wanted to be close to her okay so the first couple nights were tough um but she didn’t go to the bathroom in the crate i probably got up got up with her two or three times a night and um and let her out we took a nice long walk i got about an acre and we took a nice long walk from the to the back of the my acreage all the way back home every time she would pee and poop good to go um so it’s been pretty good so i want to also shed light on y’all see her now she’s cute all this and that but it’s reminding me because i haven’t had a puppy in 12 years it’s reminding me of the work that it takes you know that’s what that’s what um that’s what uh facebook does not show facebook does not show what how much work a puppy actually is in the beginning you know if you really want to get on top of potty training then you got to get up man you got to be willing to get up you got to be willing to learn uh the difference between the difference between their mining for attention and whining for uh for uh to go out very very important that you know the two so once your dog’s needs are met peed pottied fed watered then you can start to ignore your dog when they whine um you got to make sure their new their needs are met though you know otherwise uh otherwise you’re being unfair to the dog all right we got some we got some comments and let’s uh let’s answer some questions how about that you can start to ignore hey okay here we go hi cam how are you okay kim i got something for you i got a dog for you i haven’t sent you any pictures yet i’m been i’ve been busy and lazy at the same time but i’m going to send you some pictures of this dog this dog is hoss he’s an american bulldog and american bulldogs typically have challenges when it comes to separation anxiety very food motivated and they’re also very kind of skeptical about dogs but since the dog has been with me the dog has never ever ever shown any ill intent to any dog um has not showed any uh indication of separation anxiety and um and so i think this dog is perfect for you medic is a uh trainer at animal hospital she um co-signs she says i love hoss she he’s so easy he’s so gentle he’s so you know the dog is for you kim come by come see our new house come meet reggie come meet valentina and um come get your dog all right you do that katie says kathy says goldens are the best hey i’m telling you i don’t know i’m just been welcomed into a whole nother community that i didn’t even know existed the golden retriever community is huge i’m like i’m getting friend requests from here from there i’m getting like group requests from these golden retrievers i’m like oh my god this is crazy i don’t know what’s going on all right beth says that’s interesting had a border collie that lifted her leg to pee and yes she was dominant i mean okay so maybe we can safely say that females who lift their leg because that’s kind of extreme or dominant controlling females you know what i’m saying um carly said second that of course you would uh but let’s talk about why wha i’m glad that you commented let’s talk about your girl for a second her name is uh jesus goose which is a great name by the way um so there’s areas where goose does not like to be vulnerable this always gives me hope when it comes to trying to modify behavior anywhere where i can find in a dog’s overall lifestyle or temperament if they don’t like to give up control it’s for a reason um it’s insecurity it’s unsureness it’s um not being able to be focused so a little a little trick that i’ve been doing with goose i keep saying one in the same moose is when we let the dog into the crate so first of all um we have to make sure that any place the dog wants to get out of or out from the dog should we want to turn the dog ambition to wanting to go in to to the to the to the area to the crate to wherever we want to we want the dog to um associate that space with a very safe feeling sometimes you have to make the outside of the crate not so uncomfortable not so comfortable and that can seem that can be that’s a little difficult to grasp first for some people but i want to make sure that the dog listens to me um very highly outside of that threshold of going into the crate so when the dog is going to the crate or coming or coming to the crate or going outside the dog must show 100 um vulnerability that dog does not do that um for whatever reason the dog’s goose moose moose starts to flip out when i’m moving from the crate to the outside world and from the outside world to the crate i also i also make the dog second guess itself when the dog is outside in the fence trying to beg to get in that is something that we are definitely working on i want the dog to be comfortable 100 away from me um so and that’s a good little thing for everybody to have with their dog as far as goals go the goal a goal should be to have your dog to be outside away from you comfortable smelling the air getting some vitamin d chilling quietly that’s a good goal for all dogs to be able to have instead of allowing the dog to follow you around whine to come in wanting to go out the dog should just be able to be comfortable wherever you put it that’s a really good start for a lot of people alright let’s answer some more questions my golden is awesome except when she jumps help she’s six months old okay when it comes to jumping you have to let the dog know that it’s not okay to jump take jumping as disrespectful as disrespectful jumping would be disrespectful to a a dog to in a dog to dog world they would they do not take jumping lightly some dogs will correct that puppy via bark growl or or worse bite fight and so you want to have that same mentality the the jumping is um is disrespectful because it assumes that you have no problem with it and they can go ahead and touch you where as a respectful relationship when you have a respectful relationship or a dog that that is somewhat respectful to another dog there’s no jumping at all there’s no assertion it’s who are you and who are you know it’s a mutual respect because they have the respect of the unknown but do not allow your dog to go past that because that’s how dogs get hurt or that’s how people get hurt you don’t want your dog to assume have that sort of ego i think i come i’m comfortable calling it an ego i have your dog have an ego that says i can jump on anybody and uh there’s no consequence for me to think know that so make sure that the dog doesn’t jump on you out of respect for your you and your space and then you want to allow the dog to register what just happened you don’t want to praise the dog give the dog trees this give the dog attention at all because when you pet the dog when it jumps you’re reinforcing the jumping behavior oh this is cool i can jump when you give the dog what it wants attention outside treats ball toys it doesn’t matter so just make sure that you’re not giving the dog what it wants too soon before you um relay the message to the dog that jumping is not okay all right thank you for your question and feel free to ask another why does my golden grab hand arm in her mouth but not bite or hurt me should i worry about this yeah you should because again that’s a very assertive behavior um it may not be malicious but it’s still something that’s kind of uh what jerks do you know it’s like poking you it’s like hey i want you to pay attention to me i want what i want i don’t care what you want it’s a lack of respect get the respect whatever you don’t want whatever you don’t feel comfortable with let your dog know that it should respect it that’s how you optimize a relationship is a relationship if one is allowed to take advantage of the other then you will get unwanted behavior from the other but instead you should have mutual respect hey i don’t want this because well because i just don’t want it and the dog should respect that all right my dog doesn’t lift his his leg while peeing is there any problem could you let us know why all dogs lift the leg while being how old’s your dog and what’s your what’s your dog’s breed all right amy says i didn’t hear about the stop the shot campaign i am very pro-shot caller in the right hands so many times if i’ve if i had my dogs out off leash with their collars dogfight or something breaks out nearby i have control of my dogs dog sees a deer takes off running i’ll still have control of my dogs i could not possibly offer the freedom that they have with such safety without the use of these collars their lives are so much richer because of the collars also once trained you rarely have to use them at all just a nice thing to have if needed uh great testimony okay petco is you know it’s uh it’s unfortunate that petco and victoria stillwell they’re sort of like politicians when it comes to this you know like they’re really playing off of people’s ignorance and they really want to keep people in fear when it comes to something that’s could be very beneficial you said it you know it gives dogs the ability to be free and i don’t think we should call them shock collars because if you’re shocking dogs then you’re probably doing it wrong most likely okay um so petco is campaigning to stop the shock bull crap meaning they won’t sell shot callers anymore which is cool because i don’t think they’ve ever they they ever should have sold them anyway the only colors they sell are very bad colors i don’t think i would ever recommend someone buying a collar from petco and it actually be good there’s no good callers shock there’s no good um electronic callers in petco period so you know that they’re pretty hypocritical because they um broadcast this positive only crap um and they sell you know callers e-collars and they’ll still sell their they’re not gonna even they’re not even they’ll probably end up bringing back the e-collar once they analyze um their profit loss or whatever once they take that off the market off the shelf and they see how much more they can make off of it they’ll probably bring it back they’ll probably put it back on the shelf because they don’t really care about dogs they only care about their bottom line so whatever petco all right so i have a male doberman pincher he’s about two years old we are looking to get a puppy sometime next year uh as we are moving and would like my two-year-old to have company in the new house i have heard mixed opinions should the puppy be male or female you have a male uh my dopey that i have now is incredibly dominant he is very dopey and loving but i don’t want these issues between a new puppy and my current thought so you can you should get a submissive female first choice or you should and then second choice you should get a submissive male either way one of those two should be submissive um first choice again female second choice male and more likely to be submissive um and uh so that’s it that i mean that’s it it’s pretty simple submissive female and then if not a female submissive male but you need a submissive dog because you have a dominant dog pretty simple but all right thanks for your question all right nikki says i have a cousin who has a new puppy the puppy named brew is three months old my cousin doesn’t like to hear rue karei so when my cousin works she puts rue in the crate next to her in her home office at night the cousin has restored to sleeping resorted to sleeping next to the crate instead of her bed what is the best advice for getting a puppy to be comfortable without the owner nearby can this behavior by an owner lead to separation anxiety great questions because i’m going through that man i’m telling you it’s not easy okay when it’s your own puppy it’s a whole new ball game you know like you know excuses will start to set in it’s like oh yeah yeah yeah yeah do i let this dog out this dog looks like she sounds like she’s killing herself you know so um it’s hard to say i would say that it’s hard to say what to do because i don’t know the three month old dog three months is getting a little older though and the whining should subside what i’ve been doing is sitting on the couch laying on the couch until my puppy stops whining or falls asleep and then i’ll go i’ll go to bed you know i’m kind of like weaning her off the way that you would wean off of some drug or something you know like um i’ll take her out go pee potty and poop whatever and i’ve got a crate i should show you all my setup but i’ve got a crate and then i’ve got a gate a big gated area around the crate in my living room so sometimes she’s free to roam the gate area and sometimes in at night time especially she’s she’s in the crate um so that’s kind of my setup um but again it’s more important to learn about the dog learn about how to feed the dog learn about how long the dog can um hold uh it’s pure poop that’s important too and then you just kind of stick to a regime last night was the first night my dog held uh its pee and poop until three in the morning so from about eight to three the dog held its feet and then i let the dog out at at three um and then i let the dog out again at about six or six thirty something like that um so she’s starting to hold it longer females can hold it longer um and that’s nice because i got more sleep so it’s been going great but thank you for your question all right kathy says what’s the best way to teach a four-year-old dog to run on a treadmill is one kind of treadmill better than the other for dogs well yes and no do they have treadmills for dogs yes are they better than regular treadmills sort of but not by much you can have a regular treadmill the treadmill i would buy that’s a non-dog treadmill would have a bar that goes across the middle so that i can tie up the leash so that i can enforce my uh walking rules on the treadmill and those walking rules are that the leash should be short enough to where the dog can’t get off and the leak should be long enough to where the dog can experience loose leash walking while on the treadmill so there’s no tension on the leash but there’s also no opportunity for the dog to escape so that bar that goes across the treadmill if you have that that’s beautiful then you just wrap up the the the leash on there stick it up to his to his collar and then you’re just going for a walk some dogs will be more resistant to it than others depending on their temperament or depending on how much they’ve been able to get away with but if you don’t give up the dogs will give in to the tip to the treadmill and will eventually like it some dogs at least deal with it you’re such a softy when it comes to the little pup i’m so here for this um i am i am a softy man i haven’t had a puppy in 12 years jeez give me a break she uh she’s very she melts my heart so uh yeah it’s been a while man it’s been a while and i don’t care what anyone says this is my opinion my big opinion okay this is gonna maybe hurt a little um some folks but you don’t get close to a rescue dog the way that you get a you wait the way that you get close from a dog who um who you’ve raised as a puppy yes maybe one is more morally acceptable morally superior than the other but it’s just my thoughts what’s up elliot okay that’s interesting how to border okay my dog doesn’t lift his leg while peeing is there a problem two years old you’re my shepherd dog uh no it’s not and as in fact there’s a breeder out in new york who has um dogs who has german shepherds and none of them lift their leg so he’s obviously breeding in my opinion submissive german shepherds which is awesome good for society what type of what do i recommend i don’t know what you’re talking about all right i can’t i can attest to the quality i purchased a 300 electric fence with a shock collar and it was nothing but inconsistent and pretty much garbage yeah i’m sorry about that if you need a brand recommendation i’ll give you a brand i’m gonna tell everybody ready uh e-collar technologies go to ecaller.
com they have a very basic model it’s called the et 300 i’ll type that in okay here we go et 300 300 e-collar technologies e-collar technology um well let me just type in the damn website you go straight to it you can buy them on amazon they’re about a hundred and eighty dollars hey caller.
com show some support there’s a lot of that petco crap is really being i know the uh ceo i’ve talked to him greg van curin i’m a dealer for that um particular brand it’s a very basic very pet uh owner that very pet dog owner friendly um uh e-collar one of the best on the market let’s check it out man okay let’s see if i didn’t miss anything all right y’all want to talk about the dogs that i got i do um so there’s a seven month old american bulldog i think he’s mixed with hound he’s got to be holy smoke he came to me like a freaking tornado came out of the car not aggressive super friendly uh but jumpy just out of control no impulse control whatsoever um i consider that dog to be a mess it’s a mess the dog’s a mess because they cannot control how excited it is you ever you know walk into your house or walk into a room and the dog’s tail is just going nuts you know out of control you know it’s not out and so you want to help a dog through something that seems to be obsessive or out of control to them because out of their control um because it can come from a place of stress even though it looks like it’s um a happy behavior like dog’s wagging his tail obviously not biting you so not that big of a problem but it’s still a big problem because the dog’s behavior is obsessive and it’s not something that they can help they have to do it every single time the same thing the same stimuli triggers this same behavior anything that has to do with that you should be able to control because you’d be doing your dog a favor if they’re if your dog is in the car and they’re panting barking blah blah blah blah and you notice a pattern so notice the pattern that’s what you want to know that’s what you want to learn about your dog is there a pattern that brings on a behavior that is out of their control no matter what it is there are dogs who chew on their feet as a result of stress there are dogs who just totally think that they need to control every aspect of their life um and it is our responsibility to learn what triggers those things and then put a stop to it because we will give our dogs the gift of peace of mind and that is more powerful than anything else giving your dog freeing your dog of the obligation to bark out the window when the dog passes by is doing them a favor instead of allowing them to do that over and over and over again freeing your dog of the obligation or the obsession to pull on leash because mentally when a dog obsessively pulls on leash first and foremost they will be susceptible to being reactive to their environment when they see other dogs or other people they’re more likely to become reactive barky jumpy bitey whatever it may be but when they don’t have the option to pull then they’re sort of looking to the world they’re learning about the world through your guidance because you’re able to reach your dog you’re able to have some sort of back and forth conversation when that when there’s tension on the leash and the dog is pulling guarantee there’s no there’s no reaching the dog in that point there’s no saying the dog’s name and the dog actually looks up at you or saying sit once and the dog actually sit once so it’s very important any obsessive behavior that your dog displays should at least harmful or not doesn’t matter should at least be checked say hey why why are you doing that you know um because every behavior should come with a dog that um at least thinks about it doesn’t feel that they have to do it especially if it’s not healthy i had a dog who would again only chew on their feet when the owners came home soon as the owners opened the door the dog would immediately start chewing on its feet that’s obsessive behavior triggered by anxiety we knew the trigger and now we had to control at the moment the dog was triggered we’d have to we’d have to guide the dog in that moment and once we did dog didn’t did not chew up its feet anymore but anxiety can make your dog do some weird crap you know so it’s all about finding the patterns and sometimes that’s easier said than done you got to find the patterns at which trigger the anxiety because anxiety sometimes is unreachable uncontrollable and self-soothing self-soothing to the dog so we have to be able to find what triggers that be able to intervene within those within that um that anxiety to make sure the dog can actually use its brain and think about something else other than what they what drives the dog that’s how we get behavior modification behavior modification by definition is teaching the dogs what not to do it’s not teaching the dog sit down stay and all that that’s obedience um but teaching behavior modification is not sparking not jumping not biting not counter surfing not pulling on leash all those things are behavior modification and telling the dog no and telling the dog what not to do you can have a good dog and not know how to sit down or stay you can have a good dog if it just doesn’t do those things that i just mentioned no chewing no you know table scrap hunting whatever so that’s kind of what we do here eighty percent larry caron said it best 80 behavior 20 obedience all right so i really try hard when people contact me of not necessarily saying you need my training until i learn about their situation you know i really want to make sure i want to know if people have the ability to fix stuff on their own as opposed to giving uh giving the dog to me and spending a bunch of money i want to make sure that we um we uh give you the opportunity to fix to challenge or to see if you can improve the behavior chris says we live in a country where gs used to scratch at the door to come in we remodeled new door and omg i can’t get him to speak instead of scratch any hints yes my hints would be to not allow him to scratch not allow him to speak allow him to relax and wait for you to let him in make sure you give him a consequence when the dog scratches at the door or barks at the door make sure you give the dog the appropriate consequence for the dog to say i don’t want to do that anymore then you’ll get a dog who is patient who doesn’t beg to come in and you let the dog in when you’re ready not when he’s ready that’s my advice thank you for your question and feel free to ask another all right you guys i think i’m gonna hop off i don’t have any questions left wait a minute oh i do hold on now hold on hold on my dog will go up to people and be excited and people will pet him then after a couple minutes he will decide he doesn’t want to be petted and will look them in the face with his nose and has even grabbed someone by his mouth without biting any advice yes do not go have guests over and do not let people um pet him do not let people go do not let him go up to people see your dog is a controlling dog your dog says i’m only going to tolerate being pet for so long if i don’t like you i’m free to grab you i’m free to bite you but that’s the wrong attitude for a dog to have the dog should be humble to your authority the dog should be respectful of your authority the dog should be respecting respecting of the fact that it is not okay to fight to bite and once it realizes that realizes that it will avoid people on its own or embrace people so that’s the thing that you have to teach your dog the dog is free to do anything which means your dog is a dangerous dog so teach the dog to listen to you when people come over and teach the dog that you can get people to listen to you when people come over dog needs to see that you can control people and the dog needs to see that you can control the dog or him and once you can do that the dog will have will have no problem but for about 10 minutes both of those things should be enforced nobody can come in and just touch your dog and nobody can come in and your dog just walk up to anybody that’s got to happen all right great question it’s gonna help out a lot of people okay back to facebook we live in a oh no okay yeah i already answered that one christy christa gorman you wouldn’t be uh related to justin gorman would you it’s just a shot in the dark but he’s one of my good friends did i answer all these questions oh let’s talk about this and then we’ll go so someone asked why did the breeder allow this puppy to leave at seven weeks and i said why not and the person said that is too young for a puppy to leave and siblings eight weeks minimum but 10 to 12 is best many states it’s illegal please someone tell me why the hell it’s illegal what i don’t you know okay so that’s alarming though that people people can it’s become law that you can’t sell a dog eight weeks before eight weeks and i replied not true 49 days is optimum for uh hunting dogs anything after that hierarchy between sibling starts to change and so that’s the information that i got from my breeder who is as a very experienced breeder and we talked for a very long time and after 49 days their roles in the litter start to change and i think i think that is important to realize because if you’re a good breeder you want to match their temperament with what people are looking for in a dog and if the tip and if that temperament if those roles start to change um it kind of lessens the chance of creating a good match between dog and and buyers owners um i was willing to go seven weeks here was the seven week stimulation for me the the the dogs had a dewormer at the beginning of seven weeks and depending on how their reaction was would determine whether we would wait another week or not and so my dog didn’t have a reaction other than it had loose stool but the breeder said three weeks from now the dog needs to go to the vet so i don’t see any just i don’t see real any concern on a social level between seven eight nine and ten because on a vet level the dog doesn’t need to see the vet until 10 weeks after the seven week um vet examination and um whatever that happens at seven weeks no it’s a dewormer but maybe there may be something else too um it’s also akc approved to go between seven and eight weeks as well um so so there’s that why the law i believe it has to do with the puppies learning social skills bite inhibition within the litter and gaining confidence i have several i’ve had several puppies at seven and see nothing wrong with it especially if the new owner is experienced me neither okay my dog’s bite is very soft already um seven weeks can be plenty in my opinion so i used to think like that i used to think okay maybe the dogs you know uh been taken away from their mother way too long are way too early but my dog’s bite is is uh is really soft but at the same time i don’t care how soft it is or not if you know how to um teach them how to be soft it’s not it doesn’t take that much you know it doesn’t take that much effort to uh make their bite soft you know by inhibition comes down to um comes down to what they perceive as okay or not and so one can argue that more time with their mom biting hard would eventually turn into all right that’s too hard but the mom you know you can teach that you know the dog is very smart and intelligent when you bite too hard and you squeal or you give them something back then they’re gonna say oh all right maybe i need to switch it up or stop but every time i bite this hard um something that i’m thinking i can get or i’m thinking that’s okay um happens and it’s not okay uh to get so i don’t know if that made sense but it’s not that hard to teach by inhibition all right nothing ringing a bell but there’s a lot of my husband’s family i don’t closely uh we got one of our puppies our pups at six weeks one at fourteen went at fifteen all were slash amazing dogs in fact the one that was with litter mates until 15 weeks was the least tolerant of other dogs don’t know what that means that’s a great observation i’d love to know what that means least tolerant of other dogs and so from the information that i gathered from my breeder said that too much time with dogs in the litter could be start to be detrimental because again roles or hierarchy is changing after they say what after they after eight weeks the hierarchy starts to change and and maybe they become a little sick of their litter mates so that’s a great comment a great observation for sure that’s awesome something to think about how do you make their bite soft by making their hard bites not worth it just like you would do in a grown a grown dog in my opinion we underestimate puppy’s intelligence because they’re again biting to play they’re biting to get what they want they’re biting but because they have energy this and that but if they bite and you bite back so to speak um they need to realize that they’re going to it’s going to help them think it’s going to help them say hey i don’t want that or that first attempt that you they’re going to be like whatever that was just random so i’m going to try and bite again the same way and then you give it again and they’re like oh whoa okay okay so when i do this i get this so i shouldn’t do this and then when i bite like this which is soft nothing happens oh so i need to bite this soft it’s okay if i bite this off but when i bite a little hard i get i get this that’s what it’s about because that’s the same way the mother would do the mother would um depending on the mother’s temperament um the mother would correct the puppy without hurting it obviously but saying hey this isn’t okay you’re going to get this if you get this it’s a very very very basic common sense principle that all animals live by period there’s respect in every living mammal so it’s if you do this and this hurts and i want you to stop you’re going to get this okay if you do this if you bite hard and i do nothing or if i squeal or if i give you a treat or if i pet you i’m just making it okay you know what i’m saying so great question your puppy is way too stinking cute excited to see what you guys come so yeah i’m gonna you know i plan on doing a really a large plethora of sports i think she’s going to be very athletic her nose has proven to be very good so let me tell you about a story about her her nose i put her food in the grass scattered it like a zigzag like she would be hunting for a pheasant and um i went probably 20 yards to the left of of my track because i wanted her to pee and poop first but she caught that scent of the of the of the food you know very very quickly and now i said oh my god are you serious so if you look on my youtube channel you can see video of what i’m just what i’m talking about you know her nose is very good and she has no problem using it right away uh which is exactly what i wanted when i was describing the puppy of what of of the breeder that i wanted so anybody out there looking for a golden retriever man that come from a good breeder and come from um you know muddy goldens is where i got my my golden retriever look them up they’re out of small town uh minnesota probably about an hour away from uh saint paul and um it took us about five hours to get there from green bay but it was awesome what’s the best way to discipline puppies either for biting too hard or accidents in your house or what have you i have learned that i don’t discipline dogs for accidents in the house okay so again man my puppy juices and knowledge is starting to come back because i have a buppy i have not had but maybe one or two accidents inside the home but i chalk that down to me not being consistent i’m not going to discipline my puppy for that i don’t even praise them for going outside i don’t even say good girl good boy i don’t think it’s necessary i think you show them where to go you don’t have to say good girl good boy i don’t think it’s necessary i don’t think it makes it better for them or easier for them to realize what they’re what they’re missing i think that’s a bunch of crap a myth i think you show them where to go and they go that’s it and where they go more often than not is where they’re going to go wherever you want wherever you want them to go show them there’s obviously exceptions there’s obviously stipulations to that theory and one of them is some dogs are very clean what i would call clean dogs which means they like to go in tall grass especially poop they don’t like to poop in the middle of the yard they like to poop in one area they like to poop in tall grass i call those clean dogs because they don’t want anything to do with their poop if there’s poop in the middle of the yard they will try and walk 10 or 15 yards away from it to circle around it um so those are clean dogs to me some dogs will pee poop right in the middle of the yard and walk through it you know or pee in the crate poop in the crate no don’t mind lying in it which is more difficult to to potty train you know because you they just don’t mind peeing and pooping when they want um i love the video you showed of her rolling in the bushes so y’all go to my youtube channel and see her find her food and eat her food right out of the grass it’s awesome i mean it’s not much you know you see a dog just eating food in the grass but you gotta see when she decides to find that scent it’s amazing it’s like she air scented food that was in the grass it was cool so anywho all right guys i think i’m gonna end it there i could talk about dogs for a long time but i gotta go to bed i gotta let some let some dogs out and all that good stuff so um thank you guys for watching please give me a thumbs up if you liked it um if you’re watching on youtube please subscribe um hit that notification bell and i hope i um helped you guys out and i’ll see you guys next week i appreciate all the support thanks have a good
