Dog Care Tips : How to Give Your Dog a Massage
Let’s talk about how to massage your dog.
Now deep massage or therapeutic massage should
be left to the professionals. There are professional
or certified dog massage therapists so talk
to your veterinary clinic, they can hook you
up with somebody like that, what we are really
talking about is just gentle massage which
is great. It’s a great modality as a compliment
to veterinary medicine to help joints and
stiff necks, and backs and things like that.
So what we are really talking about is using
gentle but firm pressure you can start across
the bridge of the nose, work over the head
and again I’m just doing real gentle strokes
like that. Taking the ear and massaging it
between your finger and thumb. Like this towards
the tips on both sides. Once you do that you
can start working down, the neck they have,
most dogs have a lot of skin around their
neck and a lot of dogs like kind of gentle
massage again across the neck and back especially
if they have arthritis or problems with their
neck or back. If they are painful or sore
in any way, you want to stop don’t ever get
you know put yourself in danger as far as
getting bit. Their muscles under the neck
here that you can gently massage and work
your way down the back like this and then
start working your way across the legs. Dogs
most of the time really like this and it will
relax them if they are too antsy about it,
walk them first and get some of that energy
out and then again just use caution and be
slow and gentle.
