Dog In The Dugout – UNC Baseball Embraces Service Dog
[Music]
I got Remington on August 5th this year
he is a psychiatric medical alert
facility rehabilitation service dog this
is his first season with us
in the ACC we are the only school that
has a dog the boys have a vested
interest in him they have a bad day
they’re not doing well in class one day
they have an exam they’ll come down and
they’ll just kind of play with him I
think he’s a calming influence on
surgery in the fall all my rehab was
taught and done through Terry Joe and
obviously Remy was with her every day
being injured isn’t really the most fun
thing to go through so it was definitely
fun to have Remy there with me his work
schedule is the same as my work schedule
we started working in the fall we kind
of picked some things for him to do
during the season taking balls to the
umpire before the game starts holding
his hat or a glove during the national
anthem
he knows over a hundred commands he can
open and close the refrigerator
high-five I taught him to fist bump he
can brace to help somebody get up out of
a chair if they’ve had surgery sometimes
it’s not fun to go through therapy but
if he’s there and they’re petting him or
they’ll throw his ball for him and
things like that and then pretty soon
they’re all laughing it’s the first time
I’ve ever had a dog or any sort of
assistance dog helping out with any team
I’ve been a part of it’s like a bond
that I have with any of my teammates
really
you
