Dog Nutrition – Tips on What to and What Not to Feed Your Dog/Puppy! 🐶 #HEALTHVLOG07
hi everybody this is Emma and welcome to
the dog blog this week we’re going to be
covering dog nutrition so we’re gonna be
talking about things such as what treats
you should give your dog – how to get
your puppies eat solid food and also
what you should never feed it of so if
you guys learn something and if you
enjoy the comments or they’ll help you
make sure you leave us a little note in
the comment section below
after the video thank you okay so
subject number one is we’re gonna start
at the star and that’s where puppies so
the right amount of nutrition is
essential when you’re talking about what
you feed your puppy but obviously for
the first six to eight weeks your pup is
gonna be drinking its mother’s milk this
has the most nutrients in it as well as
antibodies to help your puppy fight
against disease and illnesses so this is
really really important if your mother
come on produce milk then obviously
there are alternatives but it’s best to
speak to a vet about this because you
want to make sure that your puppy is
still getting all the nutrients that it
should be and obviously you need to at
some point wiener-dog onto solid food
and this can be quite difficult so don’t
expect it to happen overnight it can
take about three weeks in total so first
of all when selecting what brand of
puppy food you should make sure that you
choose a high quality food with high
levels of calcium protein and calories
because obviously a perfect is growing
and these are three essential things
that your puppy needs in hi-fi level and
it’s all very important so try to avoid
foods made from corn or meat byproducts
so an actual meat should be the main
ingredient within your puppy food now at
the age of around four to six weeks is
when you should start introducing an
introducing gradually solid food into
your puppy’s diet and what you do is
make a kind of gruel where you blend the
the puppy solid food with the puppy’s
milk and then you should feed this to
your puppy three to four times a day now
when you do for your puppy over the
course of the three weeks make sure you
are slowly reducing the amount of milk
in the gruel so that your puppy is by
the end of the three weeks totally used
to
in solitude as part of its diet and this
should also help any kind of how many
problems that your your puppy might get
from suddenly inside food just won’t
occur because it will be useful either
solid for you by then so by a tweet your
pup should be happy either solid food on
its own okay so subject number two in
his treats now we’re all aware of how
important treats are in terms of our
dogs and when you’re trying to reinforce
something positive or train your dog
treats are basically what shows your
dogs that you love them and that you’re
rewarding them for something they’ve
done so they’re an essential component
of dog training and obedience so what
we’re going to talk about is what you
should look for when you’re picking the
right type of treat for your dog now you
should look at the ingredients from the
packaging and think about how you like
to feed yourself so you want to make
sure when you look at the ingredients
there are no nothing you don’t recognize
or you can’t pronounce because this
means that you’re probably not going to
know what it is and there’s not going to
be that the most natural and best thing
for your doctor eat so like I said
treated similarly to as you would be
shopping for yourself also obviously
make sure that it is actually something
that’s designed for dogs so try to avoid
other animal treats and make sure it
says specifically for dogs on the
packaging and and also remember that
your dog’s palate is very very different
different to your so things such as
sheets liver and things like that which
may not appeal to most people will
definitely appeal to your dog and
another thing is when you give your dogs
treats there are guidelines about when
you should give them so for example if
you’re training your dog the most
effective time is going to be between
meals because the dog is not going to be
full and therefore the treats they’re
going to be more there’s more it’s going
to be more desirable to the dog and and
also they’ll have more of an effect than
if you were trying to feed your dog on a
full belly okay so since it number three
we’re going to talk about food that’s
harmful for dogs now there are a lot of
myths and things that you hear we’re
hoping to clear that out for people so
the things to avoid are firstly great
and raisins these have been found to
induce kidney failure in animals
so although
you may have fed to dogs grapes in the
past a lot of them can can have such
effects so it’s probably best to avoid
them altogether
number two is something you’ve all
probably heard and that’s chocolate now
we all love chocolate I see you but
chocolate is actually toxic to dogs and
the higher level of cocoa in the
chocolate then the worse the effect on
the dog and also the smaller the dog
there was the effect as well so if your
doctor really little you feed it dark
topper for example which has a very high
cocoa level then this is not a very good
idea at all so just try to avoid that
and thirdly it’s something that we
probably cook with all the time and
that’s onions now we all love onions I
love onions but they have a high level
of ingestion of onions can cause
life-threatening anemia in dogs which is
something that I wasn’t aware of until I
research this so a lot of people
probably won’t be as well so just bear
that in mind
avoid onions grapes raisins and
chocolate okay lastly we’re going to
cover that something that we as humans
definitely appreciate and I think dogs
definitely do as well and that’s a
varied diet now having the same thing
over and over and over as we would guess
would ruin a dinner and definitely get
bored
dogs as well so I want to explain like
what I mean when I say buried so there
are five tips to help you keep your
dog’s diet varied but not upset the
right balance because of course it’s
still happening to have a decent amount
of nutrients and levels of vitamins and
all these kind of things so what you do
is try and vary the main ingredient from
each meal so for example if you usually
cheap feed your dog chicken and rice for
example as a diet then try another week
doing duck and potato or something like
that just so your dogs excited about it
and also if there is the kind of
proteins that your daughter’s gonna get
and secondly it’s okay to change brands
and some food makers have developed food
that is designed to be rotated so
throughout the week it changes but you
can do this weekly for example but just
make sure you stick to the high quality
foods for optimum nutrition switch
slowly and if you’re transitioning
through between foods slowly increasing
matter the new food while decreasing the
old
and this process can take about a week
but it just means that the doc doesn’t
you know suddenly just like something
and it kind of merges the transition a
little bit
also make sure throughout all of this
you’re taking portion taking note of
portions and calories you’ve got to make
sure your your dog stays slim and trim
and doesn’t suddenly become obese
because of the foods you’ve given it so
make sure you calculate the appropriate
calorie amount and portion amount for
your for your dog
now that’s all the nutrition advice we
have but if you feel that we’ve missed
