Dog Show Tips – Episode 5 – Movement Patterns
Oh
Oh
hi there this is the fifth episode of
Dog Show tips and today we’re going to
talk about patterns the judge always
asking you do movement patterns he
usually does a straight down and
straight back vest and look at your
dog’s soundness sometimes you’ll do a
triangle which consists of taking your
dog on a triangle so we can see all
aspects of them you dogs moving from
this rear end to it side gate to it
coming at you I’m going to show you how
I think it should be done
the denim back remember you only have a
few seconds so I think you have to make
it as perfect as you possibly can to
many people rush it don’t rush it your
dog is here you see you’re trying to
sell your dog the judge use the time to
your advantage
when you’re at this point I want you to
stop look right back the judge turn your
dog towards the judge and come right
back
that way your line stays straight and
you have a target that you’re aiming for
sometimes the mistake people make is
this they’ll go straight down
and rather than turning around this way
giving you lots of space and looking
straight back they will make the mistake
of trying to turn into the dog and then
forcing it that way the dog takes a few
seconds to get a few strides to get back
into the stride that you want to see the
next pattern I’m going to talk about is
the triangle and two triangle consists
of obviously a triangle the judge wants
to see your dog’s rear end movement the
side movement and the front movement so
again you want to make it as perfect as
you can you only have those 15-20
seconds to sell your dog to the judge a
lot of times I do a Christian beforehand
especially the young dogs because you
want your dog’s timing to get in with
you Peyton
don’t cut the corners and again here
another little courtesy turn stop look
straight back at the judge this is what
a lot of people do I don’t have to do
they don’t pay attention and they cut
corners takes a dog a few seconds to
adjust and rather than stop in courtesy
turning here they just turn the first
few steps your dog is off balance and it
is fun action is not the way it should
be
you
another pattern that’s not used as often
as the owl pattern excuse Morrissey and
jr. handling but there has been a few
judges that say show me an owl
now I’m going to show you how to do it
out again
it take your time
at this point in the end you get to turn
hands just like a relay going to switch
your hands and keep your dog right
correct again same thing here and you’re
going to look right back at the judge
and go back to the judge you have to
make it as perfect as possible because
again you only have a few seconds to
sell your dog to the judge
