hi my name is Sidney Aaron’s I’m a
professional dog trainer I’m qualified
through national dog trainers Federation
each week we’ll be doing is giving you
practical tips you can use with you our
very own dog so this week we’ve got an
eight-week-old maverick is a Rottweiler
male puppy first we’re going to be
working on a recall and first of all he
doesn’t even know his own name yet I
only got named last night so we having a
chance to teach his name yet it’s a
perfect way the teacher dog’s name the
same time it is a recall we’re going to
demonstrate that for you right now so
it’s important to do the recall is
firstly obviously to keep the puppy out
of harm’s way
dogs don’t understand it down cars and
natural predators as the being a
man-made invention and the only way dog
becomes fearful of a car if it gets hit
by car so certainly one thing we don’t
want to happen and second of all it’s
one of the biggest complaints that I get
is my dog does not come to me when it’s
called so primarily that’s what we’re
going to work on today and also getting
a dog to walk on lead ok setting
yourself up for success in your dog’s
own success is the most important thing
ok first set yourself up have food I
personally use dried liver doesn’t go
off doesn’t smell does smell bad but
doesn’t get any worse have minimal
distraction which is always best lead
dog to learn as quickly as possible have
your dog on lead so it can’t escape from
you again with food and motivation be
excited about training your dog your dog
will really enjoy it so as I’m about to
demonstrate maverick now maverick

okay once you’ve repaid it again wait
for him become distracted so just walk
around with him slowly you’ll become
instructed pretty quickly so he’s
distracted maverick maverick in the
couple times an elite maverick maverick

remember quick successes initially and
the pop you will learn very quickly from

comes in so it doesn’t get tangled up up
upon the leg you’re trying to keep the
experience as positive as possible for
the puppy so the red cord becomes
reliable as possible as the dog becomes
more and more reliable and quicker and
quicker it coming to you need to start
add instructions but small distractions
and by having a family member in the
same room not actually doing just
standing there is an upper distraction
okay field distractions up slowly
therefore the Rick will become more
reliable and more reliable so remember
there’s two parts to a recall okay first
is the motivational side the dog must
enjoy coming to you
okay second the dog must learn to come
to you and that’s where the obedience
comes into it okay so remember the small
tugs in the lead this is where it all
begins okay
I’m not putting much pressure on a dog
but I’m just teaching him plainly and
simple that if he does come to me he
gets me waterproof he doesn’t come to me
there’s a slight form of discomfort to
him nothing major nothing distress the
dog but he will learn much faster from
it so like I said we’re going to teach a
puppy to walk on lead ok you can do this
for all the dogs as well there’s no
difference okay first again just like
with the recall set yourself up for
success happy dog only minimal
distraction make sure you have food
ready to go okay always set yourself up
there for the dog will learn as quickly
as possible

as you can see he’s learning very
quickly okay so some of the biggest
challenge will have witnessed lili

light they’ll bite the lead so overcome
it very quickly is to use a lot of
motivation with the dog okay teach the
dog very quickly through using food now
and all animals need to eat even puppies

started the recall we keep walking just
slowly so I got short legs good boy

motivated good boy okay puppies it will
hear a high-pitched voice before they
hear a lower pitched voice I remember
always use a higher pitched voice
especially for men this is really
important

okay be clear with your wording be slow
with your word heaven exaggerate your
commands as a drop even his name

clear to the dog they do learn quickly
if you teach them properly
okay just once I’d like to recover again
so make sure that everybody understands
exactly what to do with their own dog
first set yourself up as he says fear
recall any betting exercise you’re
teaching your dog so first minimal
distraction okay especially teaching a
brand new skill and get yourself a food
pouch okay much easier to deal with okay
you haven’t got food in your pockets and
all the rest of it and I’ve been used
one for quite a few is now old and be
without one type of food I use dried
liver primarily and but test your dog
out a lot of people we use dry food and
have one type of food in one hand and
another type of food in the other the
dog will tell you which one he prefers
most of all okay you have to find what
motivates your dog the best okay and I’m
actually a command a nice slow and clear
okay such a said drop here the dog’s
name really exaggerated so doc can hear
it properly it’s probably it’s one of
that most and single most important
things you’ll be able to teach your dog
and always end training on a high okay

hours okay you don’t have to do training
sessions two three four minutes with a
puppy this age okay don’t drag it out
for half an hour he’ll just fall asleep
and he’ll lose whatever you’re trying to
teach him okay two to three minutes you
can do half dozen training sessions a
day but two three minutes at a time is
