Dog Training Tip: Be The Bowl
[Music]
so I challenge all of you dog owners to
channel your inner Yoda and be the bowl
so instead of just feeding your puppy or
your dog out of a metal food dish or
ceramic whatever type you have once or
twice or even three times a day
use that food as a motivational tool and
an interaction with you
food is one rewards that you can’t take
back so it’s a very valuable training
tool so if you have a couple minutes
extra of your time or even just 30
seconds you can do a couple reps of a
behavior and then jackpot reward your
dog with the end of their food dish
you’ll see a variety of dogs in this
video that we’re working with a couples
are a little bit more advanced and it’s
really important to you your markers
properly if you’re using a clicker or a
verbal marker you want to have a
terminal marker that means that they can
break out of that position and come into
you and that’s what you’re gonna use as
that jackpot
marker to at the end of the session you
can also add in some goods for a
duration marker challenge your dog have
fun with it with the puppy that we
started with this is her first time on a
leisure having anything on her she’s
butt naked since today it’s only our
second day of having her so we have her
on a retractable leash there’s no
pressure happening but you can see that
she’s scratching at it so my only
criteria for her is for her to stop that
behavior look to me or step towards me
and then I’m using a clicker to start
off with with her it’s very consistent
versus verbal markers vary from person
to person and even our infliction of our
voice will change day to day a clicker
is the same no matter what so we’re
doing the two click method one of our
trainers at her Club Allison Grabbe she
said that the dopamine effect just
really hits them so we’ve seen a
difference since using two clicks as
that terminal marker with the puppy
again just having her look to me or
engaging me double clicking and reward
and then I’ll finish off with her eating
the whole dish of food we have emerging
dog parole she’s highly food motivated
so we’re adding
a bit of dynamic movement into her heel
position by adding in the spin for her
and then we have my goggles Carmela and
Xena working on different things with
them as well so even though Carmela is
seven years old and we’ve been doing
this for a while we can still have fun
and continue to build driving behaviors
by using our food as a reinforcer versus
just giving them that food which isn’t
natural for them to do in the real world
if they were outside a silver dish
wouldn’t just appear in front of them so
I challenge you to be the bull instead
of just giving your dog a bowl of food
