Dog Training Tips with Brandon McMillan
all right hi this this is Georgia
you got a poodle that pulls or a a
beagle that barks or Chihuahua the
choose well today’s your lucky day
here with some canine cures is the
emmy-winning hosting trainer from the
CBS series lucky dog brave brother
[Applause]
so Georgia likes to Georgia’s been
trained very very well by your sister
but she does like the bark everyone
smile when somebody comes to the door
for example take a look you’ll see
Georgian Panda here toy adorable that we
thought that she barking at you know
she’s barking to get anyways but it’s a
guest ok so we kind of successive
barking oh yeah I’ll take one or two
barks but when it’s excessive we have to
stop it with a with a command you have a
no command a quiet command anything no
yeah I’m going to show you the best tool
on the planet see that $0.20 solves any
dog problem in the world all we’re gonna
do is put 20 pennies in a bottle okay
we’re gonna say the word no or quiet
followed by a firm shake I’m not gonna
shake it loud because it will startle
the dog but it does it stops the barking
in their tracks okay
you have to startle them with the noise
first you have to stop the the barking
with the noise say the word no time it
again now if you do this for a week or
two what happens is you take the penny
bottle away and simply say the word no
or quiet
they’re expecting this but they’re
trained to your voice now brain to the
no or the quiet keep these around your
house anybody in the world can actually
just put 20 pennies in a ball right it’s
a great tool okay it’s very a for a week
all right I will try it out is a great
way to train a dog quiet you’re doing
quiet back what is a double leash lock
off the double leash lock off is a very
simple technique anyone at home can do
this let me demonstrate something here
we’re going to here I’m gonna switch
gonna yeah we’re gonna switch this to
here okay and all we’re gonna do to
teach a dog control what I do is I do
this on my show time and again
throughout the week so I’m gonna do is
I’m gonna put some treats right in front
of the world Jordan’s gonna be very much
watch this I want you to step on that
leash
up on this eppley Sh okay all I’m gonna
do here is I’m gonna pull this leash
right here now she can’t move forward
backwards left or right when I put this
right here I can say the word no and
pull her away
now watch it’s very simple I put it
right in front of her say of the word no
pull her away now people at home what
they can do is they can teach your dog
no I’ll leave it this is impulse control
if you do this for a week say the word
no and pull her away eventually I put
the treats right in front of her say the
way no you don’t have to use a double
each lock off okay it’s a very simple
technique that anybody at home can do
you can actually lock the back leash
onto a leg of a chair okay I got it
all right the double leash all right now
we’re gonna bring out Cooper right yes
Georgia Cooper is our producer jazz dog
right here okay for some Alisha’s now
for polling dogs there’s a tool I want
to recommend now now usually he’s a he’s
a big dog if he pulls too much what
that’s gonna do is kind of do a lot of
damage to the trachea and if you’re
constantly correcting it’s karate chops
to the throat I don’t like that so we’re
gonna do a tool it is a very simple tool
called the head halter and what we do is
we put it over and come here sweetie now
a lot of people what they do is they
mistake this for a muzzle so okay when I
put it on them I simply come here
sweetie show that you show the ground
when I put it around his snout let me
brush know your face oh my gosh yeah put
it around us now now I’m going to take
this off put it right here
now when the dog pulls what it does it
pulls the head wherever the head goes
the bottom you take it it’s his first
day on it so I’m gonna go ahead and take
it off it takes a little while to get
used to it but the reason why this works
horse trainers do this with horses got
it if you can control a 700-pound animal
you can run dogs okay you got to check
it out lucky dog Saturday on CBS Brad
