Euthanasia – When to put a dog down? Dog Behavior Q&A #160

what’s up everyone jeremy majors here with major’s academy dog training we’ll just let a few folks hop on let them see the hot topic for tonight let’s see i need to refresh this hi guys how are you hi shannon all right so let’s uh let’s talk about the topic because i want to go ahead and get that uh conversation started um we are live on youtube facebook and instagram um and we’re going to talk about at what point in my opinion should a dog be behaviorally wise and i’m not talking about health wise let’s be clear there i’m glad i thought about that because i’m no vet okay but um you know it is a topic and i do have clients that call me and are very very very obviously torn up about putting their dog down or the option of it they call me because they don’t want to feel a certain way or they don’t want me to feel a certain way about them and i cherish that it’s never an easy uh it’s never an easy solution it’s never an easy option to consider and i want to make sure people are um just aware uh or conscious of things that may be out of their control i think we as a society i’ll just go ahead and get into it i think we as a society put a lot of pressure on how we treat our animals and on some level rightly so there are plenty of people who abuse their animals and it’s so subjective to our culture so much so that we ridicule other cultures and how they treat their animals um you know the great gandhi said a nation can be judged on how um they their animals are treated and i’ll never forget that i saw that quote it was posted in our dog daycare that i worked at uh back in 2007 and um i’ll never forget that because it i think on some level it holds true so that being said um i want to be able to provide a safe space for um dog owners to at least talk about that when they’re considering it we have to keep into account what the families are going to go through we have to keep into account what the uh safe the public the the the safety of the public and we have to really deep dive deep into what is right in this situation um because for a lot of dogs for a lot of people who get dogs no matter if they’re rescue or no matter if they are from a breeder it doesn’t matter there are dogs who are not safe for society and people get dogs and just fall in love with them and this is why i do what i do because i want to save as many of those dogs as possible because i know people really love their dogs um so much so that they pay anything to get their dog not to not to do the things that they do that would consider um euthanasia um some of my good friends we’ve had to go through this man and um you know for anybody who feels judged for a decision that they have to make for the betterment of their family or society um you guys can yeah you guys can go fall somewhere i don’t know people should not be judged on their attempt to save an animal that um they feel they could provide a good uh a good uh household for their attempt to save a life they should not be judged on any decision that they make because they brought that animal into their home they brought with what with great intentions um only to save the animal and and um uh make that animal a part of their family so it’s not easy it’s not easy at all um so i’ll just talk about my experiences and opinions when it comes to evaluating if a dog has to be euthanized first and foremost um your vet your veterinarian if you’re veterinarian well let’s just talk about let’s first talk about people’s experience and what they have to go through the ridicule that they get from friends and family let’s talk about that first it’s not an easy decision based on that there are there will be people there will be people that have dogs that don’t need to be put down but people are telling them to put their dog down and that’s a hard thing to deal with it’s a very hard thing to deal with and i think um you know i i just see both sides of it where there are some people who are keeping a dog um that is very dangerous because there’s imbalance within that relationship and then there’s people who um honestly are being bombarded by opinions um from people who have never worked with a dog that is aggressive prone to aggression or reactivity and um and so i cater to both sides of of of those perspectives there um seeking out a professional also comes with levels of understanding when you seek out a professional about advice whether to put your dog down or not you should consider what type of dogs the professional works with if you see your dog especially if they have their work being shown if you see a dog on their website that looks acts this is why i put videos up out of there out up there because let’s just say and i should have probably started with this 99 of dogs that are aggressive reactive um should not be put down large majority of dogs just need some training owners just need some guidance so keep that in mind right so knowing that the importance of videos on youtube and um facebook and all that is to help people recognize that their dog they’re not alone in in in how their dog acts if they see a certain side of their dog in the videos that i post then it will give them hope and most of the time all people need to do is um call me and they feel hopeful right after that just have a conversation i’m not judgmental i will be truthful but i’m not judgmental and i and i i don’t think people do a good job of distinct distinguishing the two um so that being said um seek out when you’re considering this if you’re considering this as an option because again 99 of the time it’s not the right option and there are dogs who lose their life who are within that 99 so it’s important to talk about this it’s important to to bring awareness to this topic um but every now and then there is a dog who is beyond um who is beyond help who who whose nature whose genetic makeup um is is uh so tough to deal with that they could really really damage people let me let me just let you guys know that there are people there are children that get killed by dogs every year they get killed by dogs there are dogs that get killed by dogs so we have to always make sure we’re keeping into account the um safety of society when we’re doing this is our responsibility because we can get to know these dogs and we can really determine whether or not they need to go or not now again this is such a crazy topic because you know you you you have to totally remove yourself from the situation if you’re dealing with someone who ha does not have the experience of working with dogs working with aggressive dogs through a long period of time then those opinions should not matter your veterinarian i’m sorry to say they put down way too many dogs without without the knowledge of proper evaluation way too many most of those dogs don’t need to be put down maybe some of them do but most of them don’t so i’m gonna tell you a story about a dog i did recommend euthanasia for and this isn’t easy man this is this is heavy stuff so um but i think it’s important for people to realize and uh and talk about um so there’s a a german shepherd um a german shepherd what was his name i think his name was leo i think his name was leo and these owners you know these owners were great owners perfect dog owners um and they selected this puppy this dog was from the czechoslovakia and i’ll tell you why that’s important in a minute but they’ve had previous german shepherds obviously they had good uh experience with german shepherds and they wanted the same experience or a similar experience with this german shepherd and and so i kept the dog for three weeks i think three weeks obviously is a good enough time to get to know the dog and to determine whether the dog is safe for society um what happened and what my evaluation of this dog was is that it was more what characteristics of a wolf show you know dogs in my opinion have to have a certain level of ignorance to their intelligence they have to have a certain level of naivety or just being naive they can’t truly know their own capabilities to be completely safe to allow the dog to be around children to have a full life and to deal with society and our culture our culture is one of which you know we kind of want the dog to be okay with cats people children the whole gamut that’s what we want as a dog we want a dog to be social in general as a culture there are some cultures who are okay with the dog not being touched by every single person there is there there are on a global scale there are cultures that you just don’t assume you can touch dogs and so dogs like that are more acceptable um by the way if anybody disagrees with anything that i’m saying or has just any uh anything to share please share because it needs to be it needs to be there needs to be balance brought to this conversation i don’t want judgment on people who have to make a difficult decision because it’s not easy by any means um so anyway back like back to what i was saying there are cultures that will that do accept a certain temperament and the problem that i see when i have to make that judgment on dogs is that most of them do come from foreign lands some of them come here i mean some of them are from here but um you know most of them come from a different most dogs come from a different culture so the german shepherd circling back was from the czechoslovakia that culture is so different from for us that that dog would have necessarily would have thrived maybe in that society but in american society having a dog who challenges the owners the way that they do and him having the cognitive ability to know his own abilities because bottom line dogs are strong they have powerful jaws and some of them can be very intimidating if they know that they can intimidate you some of them decide to do so that’s what i’m talking about the awareness the consciousness of that so when it comes to people’s iq the two top traits are conscientiousness and openness and i feel like that’s the same thing when it comes to dogs that that that are the dogs who are very conscious of their abilities because most dogs are naive to it or submit to a certain level of um uh pressure so i don’t mean to laugh titus from brazil and this sob is going to be crazy his whole life yeah that’s a baltimore for you too and he’s from brazil yeah of course uh oh i see i got another comment jake says i think a lot of owners who have rescue dogs tend to be more relaxed when it comes to hard decision of euthanasia because they feel the animal has already had a rough life in most instances and give many free passes in regards to behavioral issues which may be true in regards to his past life experience but if the animal cannot be trusted by his family or if the dog challenges the hierarchy it cannot be left alone with family and follow the rules in place while the person who the dog sees as the alpha is gone that may be the indicating factor of what choice needs to be made of and one should consult a rehabilitation expert like yourself before making a decision in the heat of the moment if a dog fight occurs i mean that was beautifully said you know um there it is right there this man went through it himself and um there was no better person for this dog um and you know this family gave this dog chance after chance after chance but this dog was definitely a slave to their own genetics and our heart sometimes gets in the way of those decisions and um you know you may need someone who isn’t um in love with the dog to help make that decision um so i appreciate uh appreciate you sharing your story i mean um it’s never a heart an easy situation for anybody uh to do that and um yeah so um so thank you for that jake i appreciate that um i couldn’t have said it any better um you know uh there will be a time hopefully never but there will be a time where we do have to make hard decisions i’ll tell you a less hard decision or maybe it’s not a less hard decision but you guys decide this woman called me said the 10 week old puppy a 10 week old puppy labrador mind you ten week old puppy was terrorizing the family um biting challenging humping locking on ankles and wrists and i mean like i said what i said how old is this puppy 10 weeks got him from a breeder um and they had gotten a previous dog for from that breeder so obviously they were satisfied they went back to that same breeder and so they said this dog is that aggressive at 10 weeks 10 weeks that’s like two weeks removed from mother like what’s going on here um that dog was never taught aggression you can’t necessarily do that um at that young at that age um so but i’m not saying that i’m totally sure about what happened either um but obviously the breeder was good enough to go back to so it you know and so so i said i said um you might need to take this dog back to the breeder give the dog back you are not you did not pay for an aggressive problem that puppy heads ate some myth man i’m telling you man like damn um so you know and and and the lady was like well can we bring him to you just to evaluate so that i can kind of clear my conscious on some level and i’m like yeah of course you can but uh i’m going to tell you right away you’re probably wasting your time um because what you told me is so outrageous for a 10 week old puppy like you know that just totally speaks of i don’t know i don’t know you know maybe the puppy is sick we’ll see do you feel differently if dogs attacks slash bites other dogs versus if the dog attacks a person or child um i will feel um that’s a great question in my opinion children so that’s a great question so children in my opinion don’t pose the same threat as a dog would right so you want to you want to take that into account a dog would provoke a dog who’s a dog a dog who’s dog aggressive we could in my opinion um that dog could be coming from a true place of fear um more times than not children don’t give a dog a reason to fear them so because i’ve i’ve trained dogs who are um fearful uh excuse me um aggressive to adults and totally fine with children i get those calls all the time so what that tells me is because i know this to be true that size does matter to chil to two dogs a big burly guy walking in the door versus a toddler uh is gonna be a for some dogs gonna be a different reaction out of the dog and so um when it comes to dogs who cheat bite children i more so go towards the the dog being a uh a complete butthole like a complete big brat who says who has the attitude of i don’t want you around and i’m going to bite you to get me to get you away from me and to me that is of a attitude problem that’s a lack of um leadership problem from the owners versus if a dog if a dog is biting strangers um we can sort of cater to their fear a little bit but more times than not it’s going to be the same attitude um just on a different level it’s going to be in the same attitude because yes dogs are going to be a little bit more um apprehensive about bigger objects people i have people who say my dogs are afraid of men my dog’s afraid of so generally men are big bigger um and so so i can cater to their fear a little bit give them the benefit of the doubt on that not to say every dog um doesn’t have a reason to fear children because some dog parents allow their children to torment their their dog and okay i can see that being a you know um a reason to to to to be to cater to the dog’s reasoning for acting out acting aggressive towards children so i do feel differently about it because they’re different it presents a different picture for people but great question all right my dog jack not sure if you remember us got attacked by a pit bull mix luckily my husband right there she came charging and went right under our chain link fence and right to jack’s neck owner said he was going to put the dog down but still here he does nothing with the two dogs he is not he he has so not sure why he even has dogs what do i do he now does chain up the dog that attacked but is only letting them out like twice a day and for like three minutes um i would maybe contact animal animal control make sure that you are putting uh getting those you know complaints documented um and then on the other hand do what it takes to defend your dog you can change a dog’s mind for from ever coming into your yard but you will have to be violent with that dog and the only reason why you’ll have to be violent is to protect your dog and yourself and so i’m okay with that i had a dog charge me today i had the new finland that i’m training i was just walking on a walk and i had my son on my back um i had a pitbull chain charge me today um dog’s never gotten out before but i know the dog would would do that because that anytime i pass the dog’s house dog’s barking his head off at the fence and i’m like think in the back of my mind if that dog ever gets out i have to kick his ass uh because i cannot have the dog that i’m walking be hurt i cannot have myself get hurt and i damn sure cannot have my son get hurt and i know dogs and i know that that would be the intention so dog charged me today and um i had to hurt the dog man i had to i kicked it in its stomach and dogs don’t like that luckily the dog just walked away after that i gave it every single chance verbally some dogs won’t charge me after i verbally yell the hell at them you know i’m like get the hell away you know i’m standing my ground so so i should tell you what to do if you’re not already triggered or pissed off by me by by by what i my my means to get the dog away um if you’re not triggered by that i’ll tell you that you do have to take every measure it takes to not get your dog attacked because don’t assume that the dog charging is going to be friendly smell and then walk away it’s not going to happen i mean maybe it happens but it’s dumb to assume so it really is um that dog certainly again i gave every chance to verbally to get to try and get the dog away he was not persuaded he charged me and then immediately circled around me i had my the new finland on the left side he immediately charged and then lunged for the dog’s neck lunged for the newfoundland dog’s neck and as he was in the air i booted the dog in the stomach and the dog did not like that and decided to walk away i had to dog could have killed that newfoundland that i was with dog could have messed around and bit my child had to do it sorry i’ll do it again too over and over again i cannot have my clients dogs go home any different way than they have they arrived to me i try my best for that at the same time i have to be in those situations so that i can improve the dog’s behavior too we have to see a dog on the other side of the fence barking their head off because most people come to me with dogs that that are not okay with that so i had a 150 pound dog in my left hand and a pit bull charging me so by any means i had to get that pit bull away from me and i’m sorry to keep saying pit bull but it was a pit bull so whatever it would it wouldn’t matter if it was up it wouldn’t matter if it was a chihuahua i would have did the same thing maybe maybe not maybe not maybe a little less um but by any means don’t let do not let any dog come up to you unless you want to sacrifice your dog’s uh thinking on other dogs because it will alter their thinking it will say when i was in this situation where we walked together you allowed a dog to come up to me and then we got into a fight therefore since you didn’t handle the situation i’m going to handle the situation from now on dogs like when i see a dog i’m gonna go go crazy do anything i can now to get that dog away from me and you so um i wanted to share that story i mean it doesn’t necessarily have to do with euthanasia but um i don’t even know how we got on this topic oh someone asked about it ashley says it happens sometimes off-leash dogs get booted got to it’s better than them being sent to the hospital it’s better than them being bloodied up and you possibly going to the hospital there’s been plenty of that as well can dogs get ptsd from being attacked and charged by offline yeah just kind of answer that for sure absolutely that’s how dogs become crazy on leash you know my husband punched this one i would put up wood fence but can’t afford it sound clicker thing did not do anything see that’s what i’m saying man some dogs are relentless about it um you know i you’re in a tough spot for sure um you’re in a tough spot but uh but do what it takes to not get your dogs hurt that’s all i’m gonna say do what it takes so let’s talk more about again guys let’s talk more about um the decision to be um hey you saying hi to me come here you want to tell them about euthanasia say it say something say opportunity what what say something they’re all listening to you papa grandma grandma yeah papa grandma is that your favorite words no no thank you hey did we uh did we did we uh did we encounter that big white dog and did dada save the clyde today were you were you scared you were you didn’t act scared he kept saying oh big puppy when that dog was charging us were you scared okay what are you doing now you want to stay up here with that no okay then go down with mama no here i got to get back to my show oh i want to talk to the people you want to stay with dada huh okay all right so anyway uh yeah so he i just want to i think it’s important to talk about um the criteria in which i evaluate dogs and um oh hold on a second here come on there we go um to so what i see in a dog that um that i would say all right this dog is not safe for society so let’s just talk about it um so generally when dog when people bring their dog to me and their what what when people bring their dog to me and they are human aggressive um normally i can take the dog’s leash and uh we do we go on a walk and everything’s cool after about 10 or 15 minutes the dog’s like all right this dude’s this dude’s not trying to come up to me and pet me so i’ll go up and sniff him like okay cool um and then and so um and but for the dogs who who aren’t safe for society that’s not going to be an option for them they’re not they’re not going to warm up to me uh very quickly so what i do with those dogs is i’ll bring them back into the backyard and i’ll tell the owners to put their leash on a stake um because i have like a fence that has a bunch of uh whatever you call them a bunch of posts or stakes metal stakes i’ll put the leash on them and i’ll tell them i’ll tell them to go away now you know like i’ll tell them to say goodbye and then um and then we’ll uh and then just leave the dog with me you know because uh most human aggressive dogs they’re not going to uh they’re not going to challenge me as much when they’re away from their parents and away from their territory um and so um so i tell them to leave me leave me alone with their dogs and then so and then this tells me a lot when this happens because most dogs again after the parents have gone um and um and they’re on that on their territory the dogs listen to me very quickly you know i usually tell them to sit um when they’re barking because a lot of them will bark at me right when i’m approaching them bark bark bark bark get away get away get away get away and i don’t go away and and the time that it takes for them to say all right well he’s not going away and he’s telling me to sit so fine let me see if this works that is a big indicator for me to go all right this dog is sort of saying all right let me explore other options within a good time frame the dogs that i have to put be that that i would say have to be put down in that situation do not listen to me at all they’re like i don’t care what you do if you come near me i’m going to eat you you look like a hershey’s bar um so those dogs are very rare right away they’re very rare um but they are out there don’t don’t write on your hand don’t do that um so they’re very rare all done look you wrote on this one too okay well you got to stop doing that um so they’re very rare but but but but it does happen and again i want to bring awareness to this issue because there are probably too many dogs that don’t need to be put down that are being put down um and so um it’s very important to talk about what but again in general most dogs will seek out a better solution a an easier solution much much much quicker than the dogs who aren’t very submissive are very smart i mean are too smart i do think that there is um yeah he is definitely um i do think that there is um an intelligence that comes with dogs who are um too smart for their own good you guys have heard of that it is true there are dogs who are so smart that again they know they know um how to manipulate uh the situation in their favor and they’re willing to do whatever it takes to get that way what what get down okay and you gotta go with mama go with mama go with mama go on uh all right so yeah anyway bye reggie good night good night bye bye all right sorry about that um so anyway yeah it’s not easy it’s not easy uh again the crazy thing is that like the dogs that i do recommend being put down um are very intelligent very very intelligent almost too intelligent um and that goes for in my opinion that goes for people too the people who are most dangerous to society are hyper intelligent all right sorry okay there we go um so anyway if any of you guys have questions about that please please please feel free to uh to uh to answer to ask to whatever do you have any tips on how to get a dog into the water by himself um not by himself because i would help him into the water but i hope you’re not talking about clyde because clyde is a newfoundland some dogs are born in the water and as a matter of fact i had him in the pool today it was just a kiddie pool but i could tell he wanted to go in because i put the kiddie pool and there was no water and he jumped right in um he hates swimming a new finland hates swimming what end up that’s like that’s like saying a border collie hates hates hurting that’s crazy we’ll we’ll we’ll address that don’t you worry okay kayla says one of the questions we ask our adoption on our adoption application is what’s the reason you would re-home a dog and almost every single person lists aggression when asked to elaborate and explain the options they would exhaust before making that decision 95 percent of the people say that they would consult their vet before getting any type of professional training having dealt with a lot of people that surrender their dogs for aggressive behavior the advice they always say that they receive from their vet is medication and euthanasia we have taken in so many dogs that have a history of aggression and successfully found them owners that are compatible with them with no issues but i 100 agree with you that not all dogs can be safe it’s troubling that people are not educated slash lack of resources or don’t explore their options before making that decision yeah i mean you bring up a great great point um who wants to deal with a dog that they are that that have no idea on how to deal with aggression who wants to deal with a dog like that you cannot expect people to be educated on how to deal with a dog like that no one should um and so on some level i i i can sympath i can sympathize with people uh like that because i’ve had dogs i’ve had a dog that i had to put down myself that i raised from a puppy and i had to put down because he was aggressive um and so if a trainer is telling you i spent all the time in the world with this dog it’s not just one way or the other it’s not saying oh your dog’s aggressive because of how he was raised that’s not true not true at all there are instances like that yes but more importantly dogs are being bred with those behaviors and um that’s not always the case though most of the dogs that i do train um just need a little bit more leadership coming from the parents but there are dogs who are slaves to who they are genetically i want to emphasize that because there’s no not enough conversation about that so people who want a dog from a breeder do yourself a favor and ask to see the parents demand to see the parents if they don’t if they don’t um if they don’t let you see both parents then you gotta go walk out if you can’t pet both parents walk out because they may be hiding something from you and you don’t want to start with a problem um so more to your comment too um that sucks that people are going to vets you know vets have nothing to do with behavior but they are at the forefront of what people think you know like i don’t know that’s a good question why people go to vets before they go to behaviorist vets are obviously held to a higher regard i guess maybe which is why vets need to be in alignment with behaviorists you know but it’s an it’s a weird thing dogs are uh definitely bring out emotions man and it’s hard to it’s hard as a person of this industry to work with other trainers other uh people who deal with dogs rescues because it is is it’s an emotional attachment and and um it’s just it’s just tough there’s a saying out there when it comes to trainers that the only thing two trainers can agree on is that the third one is wrong and you see that a lot in the industry so um some people are asking a lot of their breeds to integrate into a safe member of society breeds that never should have left the farm absolutely right there are breeds who do not need to be with people in an apartment you know unless that breeder specifically says this dog can be in an apartment this dog has a temperament to be an apartment but i walk my dogs over there uh over there um what’s the name of the place i don’t know it’s a big apartment complex and i see german shirt head pointers i see beagles uh i see huskies in an apartment like wow i mean you can make it work you can make it work but the mo the the average person is way too busy to be to make that work unless you have a dog daycare in place unless you have a dog walker in place um you know the dog’s gonna be barking their head off howling their hair off all day long in the kennel um so so yeah um i agree with that i think certain dogs need certain owners and again certain breeders don’t even give a crap about where the dog is going more so than the than the uh than the dollar so um nikki says this is totally our story i’m so thankful thankful we found you we can’t wait to be trained and have our dog trained as well yeah i’m thankful for you guys i’m i really am glad that some people find uh me before they do make that decision uh it’s a lot of pressure it’s a lot of you know from your own family members to your friends um they’re going to go ahead and say hey they don’t have that emotional attachment so they’re going ahead and go ahead and say hey get rid of the dog had never had to make that hard decision themselves or maybe they did but um when you talk to someone like me who has lived with dogs who um you know all the the dogs that i have all have done things that have gotten the dogs killed all the dogs i have and um and um you know it’s uh it’s it’s so i know what people are going through when they have a dog who is totally um manipulative who holds their people who they live with hostage it’s not it’s stressful as hell to live with a dog like that you want that you want the best intentions for them i mean you have the best intentions for them but then maybe on some level you think that they are taking advantage of you and um and and it’s stressful you can’t have people over you can’t have family over you can’t have under other dogs it limits the your social life it limits your uh your life in general and um i want to free people from that eventually i want for everyone to be able to do the things that they enjoy and have their dogs enjoy those things as well i went to a bar that had a great quote that said um grind until you give you can give your dog the yard that they deserve and this was a college student that wrote that quote but i it hit home for me because i was there i was a young guy and my and i was single and i had dogs i had three pitbulls and my goal was only to give them the best life possible i wanted to work so hard where i could give them the you know that big yard that that uh that was mentioned so um i don’t even know why i said that but it was a pretty good quote if any of you guys who again who have questions about anything that i’m saying at any point uh please feel free to intervene if you want to share your own story um that would be awesome you will you will not be judged at all this is a hot topic and i think again it needs to be addressed it needs to be talked about uh because um unfortunately there are dogs who uh who need to be put down so when people call me so when people call me and they say hey man hey do i need to put my dog down and i tell them um i don’t know i have to get to know the dog is your dog doing these things does your dog bark its head off does a dog jump on people does is the dog food aggressive is the dog resource aggressive does a dog pull on leash does the dog not listen when you come when you tell them to come um if you can ask if the if the answer is yes to those questions then absolutely not you do not need to put your dog down because you got a whole lot of crap to clean up within your dog’s behavior and that’s what i would that’s obviously you know what i do is clean all that up and then when you clean all that up 99 of the time no aggression because most of the time aggression comes with the dog barking its head off the dog jumping on people the dog being food aggressive the dog just generally not listening and being a butthole um so um generally speaking most dogs just have a big attitude big ego narcissistic behavior the world revolves around them and those dogs i can work with 100 it’s the dogs who do all those things who listen very well and then decide to still be a butthole you know those dogs are the ones who might not necessarily be so safe safe for society because i need dogs to listen to at a high level in order to keep society safe if they’re listening to themselves before they can listen to their owner um then that’s therein lies the problem anybody have any questions about that comments concerns okay i will close out then by saying chances are your dog does not need to be put down chances are okay anybody can call me and i will talk them through the whole process anybody who has dealt with me knows that i never rush you off the phone i want to talk through everything and um i can give you a better answer if i learn the situation based on all of the situations that i’ve been through and talked about um dozer definitely was into himself and his big head before he came to you yeah dozer yes even the name speaks of just straight up stubbornness uh straight up he’s a rottweiler so he’s a big boy um you know so shout out to dozer um i was listening to a gundog podcast and they made a quote in regards to them making long distance retrieves and it was distance erodes control the same can apply to lack of obedience in relation to control distance eros control yeah so that i i like that i think that that it that very much so holds true right so the further the dog is away from you the bigger the option for the dog not to listen to you um yeah that’s that that makes sense i can see that i can see that happening for sure um all right you guys so yeah like i said most dogs by a large margin do not need to be put down not only consult your vet to make sure it’s not it’s a help it’s not a health issue but also consult a behaviorist who deals with the the issues um of aggression react reactivity separation anxiety things like that consult one of those before you’d make that decision um because we can really tell you if you don’t need to put your dog down or not and even so you know me getting to know the dog on a personal level i will be able to tell you if the dog is safe for a society or not and um again it’s not an easy it’s a it’s not an easy choice but if i feel that the owner is going to meet me halfway on working with the dog keeping in contact with me continuing to learn because it is a journey then i am confident that um the dogs will couldn’t um could never bite again um or act aggressively again it’s all about learning and it’s all about um it’s all about putting up certain boundaries healthy boundaries that the dog learns to love to respect they’ll actually respect you a lot more if you can um if you can put boundaries up but for some dogs a very small percentage one percenters um the dogs that would rather listen to themselves after gone through some really intense training um you know the the the option is is is certainly a of a viable one so all right you guys i’ll end it on that thank you guys for watching give me a thumbs up please like this somehow some way tell your mom pops friends family members if they’re thinking about it please reach out and call me they will have a non-judgmental conversation with me so i appreciate you guys watching and we’ll see you next week bye
