French Bulldog Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome – BAS
Frenchie medical issues Buckey cephalic
airway syndrome bas this issue is a
combination of a long soft pallet narrow
nostrils and an underdeveloped narrowing
of the trachea or windpipe on your
Frenchie breathing difficulty heavy
snoring and a very noisy breathing as
well as the noticeable decrease in the
ability to want to exercise are all
common symptoms of this issue warm hot
and humid conditions weight increased
excitement and even allergic reactions
of all additional risk factors for this
problem so please be aware effective
treatment for bas usually involves
removing part of the French bulldogs
soft palate which will allow a better
passage of air into the dog’s lungs this
operation will usually improve the
airway by at least 60% care should still
be taken though with regards to exercise
and your dog’s weight after this
operation has taken place severely
affected French bulldogs should have bas
corrected if you are breeding French
bulldogs then you really should stay
away from this and only breed from sound
partners
if you’re French who suffers from bas
then be aware of situations where
excessive panting may occur as this will
narrow the airway even further and cause
a much worse scenario if your friend
Frenchie is panting too hard and
immediately cool them down using a hose
or paddling pool and play close
attention to the head and belly do not
attempt to make your Frenchie swallow
ice packs can also have reduce the
swelling
if placed under the throat area if your
Frenchie is still having problems and
get to the vets of sharpish with the air
conditioning on in the car common sense
really but on a very hot day just make
sure all your friend sheet is shaded
most of the time and that you have
plenty of cold water at hand with good
ventilation around your little French
Bulldog thanks for watching
