German Shepherd vs Border Collie Comparsion – Choosing a Puppy

make a video comparison between German
Shepherd and Border Collies these two
breeds are kinda similar to each other
both are herders both are amazingly
smart dogs and they are easily trainable
and both are very popular dog breeds and
they’re much more similarities between
them but what are the differences of
course the first difference is in their
origin because both dogs have different
ancestors German Shepherd is obviously a
German dog breed that originated in 19th
century so it’s relatively new dog breed
GSD ancestors are all kind of German and
mostly Bavarian dogs border collie does
not have German heritage because it is a
dog from Great Britain border collie
ancestors are dogs the Romans brought to
England in first century before Christ
to hurt their livestock another obvious
difference is in their appearance and
size male German Shepherd has hide
around 60 centimeters and weigh around
35 kilograms on the other hand border
collie is a little bit smaller with
average height of 50 centimeters and
weighed between 15 to 20 kilograms of
course females are a little bit smaller
and lighter German Shepherd is muscular
dog and looks very very powerful his
coldest weather resistant and there is
not only the jerk standard German
Shepherd version but also long coated
version colours include black and tan or
gold to light gray GSD has deep chest
and strong hint quarters and not only
did they are very smart but they breaked
ears and bright eyes create an alert and
intelligent expression
Border Collie has athletic look and
well-balanced medium-sized body they are
available in much more colors than GS DS
because they can be in all solid colors
but they can also be bicolor
tricolor or merrill the only solid color
that is not accepted by breed standard
is white the border collies no scholar
should match the main color of their
body and border collies especially the
Merrill version as often times each eye
in different color both breeds have
herding and working heritage which means
that even today they need a lot of
exercise and we are not talking only
about physical exercise but also mental
exercise if you are not giving them
enough of exercise they might find other
work themselves and believe me it will
not be work that you will lie they might
even became destructive both breeds are
great at obedience and herding trials so
you can try to do that with them if you
like agility then I would recommend you
border collie since GSD is a little bit
too big for agility both breeds are
oftentimes used as guide dogs but it is
not their primary work
border collies are primarily used as
herding dog for their high energy
stamina and intelligence while German
Shepherds can also be used as herding
dogs they are more popular in tracking
police work and protection both make
wonderful pets but share the same
high-energy traits and require a lot of
intention and stimulation as I said
earlier in this video both dogs are very
smart and easily trainable but I had
made that they can be sometimes a little
bit challenging
Jia’s these have tendencies to howl and
bark and they have higher prey Drive
but both dogs are very friendly towards
their family kids even to our strangers
only problem can be with other jobs but
with proper socialization both breeds
are great with other dogs as well GSD is
a very heavy cheddar but border collie
sheds a lot too and neither of these
dogs are good for people with dog
allergies let’s talk a little bit more
about their intelligence there is no dog
psychologist or dog trainer who would
not put both braids into top 10 list of
smartest jobs in the world actually Jay
would be most of the time in top 3
border collie on first place German
Shepherd is third and on second place
there is most of the time fool
however the breed is only one of several
factors breeding and genetics come into
play the poorly bred border collie is
not going to be as smart as well bred
German Shepherd there is a mixed breed
named Charlie it is a maze of purebred
German Shepherd and purebred border
collie
and despite popularity of both purebred
dog breeds I don’t think that many
people know about Charlie at least
definitely not in my country charlie is
also super friendly dog that needs a lot
of exercise many Charlie’s maintain the
German Shepherd appearance but the
border collie physical traits are still
apparent if only softly so if you are
looking for a dog that will not only be
a great friend but you can compete with
him in obedience and herding trials it
will love to work dog that is good of
leash dog that is smart and easily
trainable and that is good with other
dogs and kids you will make no mistake
with both German Shepherd and border
