GERMAN SHEPHERD vs BOXER! What’s The Best Family Guard Dog?

so you want to know what the ultimate
family guard dog breed is or today’s
round Wan contest sees the German
Shepherd in the Box are looking to
eliminate each other and move on to the
quarter-final so about further ado let’s
get straight into round 1 about five
round fight whoever wins the most rounds
round number one
temperament with children German
Shepherds are known to be good around
children of all ages because they’re so
calm and patient more especially if
they’re well bred even tempered dogs
with the said German Shepherd puppies
can be boisterous during playtime and
mature German shepherds can grow into
large dogs as such care should always be
taken when there are toddlers in the
home because a German Shepherd may
accidentally knock them over during
playtime German Shepherds are now for
their intelligence alertness and loyalty
however they are not the best choice of
first-time owners because they need to
be expertly and calmly handled with the
firm yet gentle hand these dogs must
know their place in the pack and their
owner is the alpha dog or they could
start displaying dominant behaviors
which can lead to all sorts of problems
which can make a German Shepherd that
much harder to handle being essentially
a working dog German Shepherds need lots
of mental stimulation as well as enough
daily exercise to be truly happy and
well balanced dogs when they’re in the
home environment because they are so
intelligent they are quick to learn new
things and this includes picking up bad
habits all too easily
if left to their own devices and not
given the right amount of daily exercise
and mental stimulation a German Shepherd
dog may well become a little destructive
and noisy around the home and it could
be put down to sheer boredom German
Shepherd dogs respond extremely well to
positive reinforcement training because
they’re sensitive by nature they do not
react well to any kind of head of
heavy-handed handling which could have
an adverse effect on a dog’s nature
being alert and loyal German Shepherds
can be a little territorial which is
something to bear in mind when you know
anyone is coming to visit your home and
why they have always been so highly
prized as watchdogs German Shepherds are
high maintenance and thrive on being
with owners who have the time to devote
to a canine companion they need at least
two hours exercise every day which must
be combined with lots of mental
stimulation boxers are generally very
kind dogs when they’re around children
of all ages and when given the correct
guidance so extremely loyal and
protective of their family pack which is
something that must be taken into
account when the kids are friends over
to play as with any other breed they
need to be well socialized and
introduced to as many new situations
pets and people from a young age to be
truly well balanced and well behaved
dogs and even then their playfulness
usually gets the better of
there are energetic extremely playful
and fun characters to have around and
they take a long time to mature boxers
are always eager to please and extremely
loyal dogs by nature even though boxers
are wonderful with children their
excessive playfulness energy and a long
time to mature can be frustrating and
dangerous around young children letting
the German Shepherds calm or passive
nature win this first round round number
two the intimidation factor the German
Shepherd is a mid-sized to large dog
that boasts being a little longer in the
body than they are tall they’re powerful
muscular dogs with extremely weather
resistant coats now very well
proportioned dogs with slightly domed
foreheads and nicely wedge-shaped
muzzles their eyes are almond shaped and
medium in size with dark brown being the
preferred color although lighter eye
colours are acceptable the German
Shepherd has a lively intelligent
expression and gives the impression of
being a confident and self-assured
character German Shepherds have medium
to larger sized ears are broader at the
base and set high on a dog’s head they
carry their ears erect and parallel to
each other these dogs have a strong jaw
line with a perfect bite the boast
longest necks are strong and well
muscled which they carry at an angle at
the rest but higher when they are on the
move or excited as previously mentioned
the German Shepherd is a well
proportioned dog which sees well muscled
shoulders and legs
they’re long in the body compared to
their height with deep chests that
neither too broad nor too thin their top
line Falls away very slightly from the
wither down to the CRU hindquarters a
well muscled strong and broad with
powerful back legs that feet are well
rounded with short dark nails and the
pads are extremely well cushioned German
Shepherds have long tails that they hold
in a curve when at rest and a little
higher when they move although they
never hold their tails higher than the
level of their backs when it comes to
their coat there are two different types
in the German Shepherd the first being
short and the second being long but both
are extremely weather resistant a German
Shepherds outer coat is straight dense
and close lying with dogs having a much
thicker and denser undercoat the hair on
a German Shepherds head is front legs
paws and toes is short but longer and
denser on their necks back of their legs
and hindquarters dogs have longer coats
have feathers on the underside of their
tails along the hair on the back of
their front legs the hair is also longer
both behind and inside the ears which
looks like Tufts so male German
Shepherds may even have a slight roof it
is worth noting the mole type coats and
German Shepherds are highly undesirable
one of the most noticeable and
during physical traits of the boxer is
that undershot jaw and unlike in many
other breeds this is one trait there’s
actually highly desirable in the breed
their jaws structure means a boxer has a
very strong grip when they take anything
in their mouths
they’re extremely proud looking dogs
always hold themselves well they’re
extremely well muscled and nicely
proportioned from the heads right down
to the tips of their tails a boxers head
is another of their defining physical
features which should always be well in
proportion to the rest of the dog’s body
and should never show any sort of
exaggeration whether their occupant ever
being too pronounced boxers have a
well-defined stop and the bridge of
their noses should never be too far back
in a dog’s forehead and it should not be
down face Teva the tip of a boxers nose
is set a little higher than the root of
their muzzles which adds to their unique
look cheeks are well-developed and
powerful without any hint of a bulge the
only time a boxer has any wrinkles on
their faces is when they’re excited
their muzzles are always that much
darker as compared to the rest of their
faces and bodies round two is always
going to be subjective and this is
another close one for me to choose
between but in my opinion the German
Shepherd has the edge in the
intimidation factor round number three
the dogs trainability German Shepherds
are highly intelligent and need a
tremendous amount of mental stimulation
to be truly well-rounded characters
however in the right hands with a
correct amount of training they’re
extremely responsive to commands they at
all they excel when they take part in
obedience classes for this very reason
there are particularly receptive to
voice commands when the right sort of
intonation is used German shepherds
respond well to positive reinforcement
and will not accept any harsh methods of
handling which includes the way they are
corrected when they get something wrong
well handled they excel at all canine
sporting activities which includes
agility flyball and obedience but they
can also be seen working as rescue dogs
tracking dogs and helping the police and
overall thority is in their work all of
which are jobs that the German Shepherd
takes in their stride and with pride
boxers are intelligent dogs but they
need to be well handled and given the
right sort of guidance from a young age
for them to be truly obedient dogs they
also need to be well socialized as soon
as possible to get to meet new people /
animals and new situations for them to
grow up to become a more rounded dogs
boxers can be very boisterous when young
which means it can prove difficult to
get a dog to focus when there are being
taught anything new with this in mind
it’s essential for these dogs to be
handled firmly right from the word go so
they understand their place in the pack
and who an alpha dog is boxers can
become unruly on
will fall if they’re not given the right
sort of direction and they’re extremely
quick at picking up any bad habits which
need to be nipped in the bud gently but
firmly no contest here and a super quick
judgment as the German Shepherd wins
this all day every day round number four
health and life expectancy the average
life expectancy of a German Shepherd is
between nine and thirteen years
sometimes longer when properly cared for
with this said the breed is known to
suffer from certain hereditary and
acquired health issues which include the
following hip and elbow dysplasia but
you were terry dwarfism exocrine
pancreatic insufficiency degenerative
myelopathy and bloating gastric torsion
the average life expectancy of a boxer
is between 10 and 12 years were properly
cared for and fed an appropriate good
quality diet suit their ages as with
many other pedigree dogs the boxer is
known to suffer from specific health
issues more than other breeds which are
worth knowing about if you’re thinking
about sharing your home of one of these
fun-loving dogs the health disorders a
breed is known to suffer from include
the following a optic stenosis bloating
gastric torsion box a cardiomyopathy
colitis degenerative myelopathy epilepsy
cataracts hip dysplasia hyperthyroidism
various cancers hives and allergies
corneal ulcers and brassia Falik
obstructive airway syndrome the German
Shepherd takes this round of a longer
life expectancy and fewer common health
issues and moves for nill up going up
into the fifth round the fifth and final
round actual protection ability German
Shepherd dogs make excellent watchdogs
because the need to protect is a trait
that is deeply embedded in the dog and
why the breed has always been such
highly regarded guard dog throughout the
world extremely loyal and intelligent
the German Shepherd dog is not only a
great choice as a family pet but they’re
extremely versatile in a working
environment – over the years his breed
has been used by police forces in many
countries and they play a vital role in
the army thanks to their intelligence
alertness resilience stamina reliability
and extraordinary scenting skills boxers
are exceptionally good natural watchdogs
which means they don’t need to be
trained to guard over and protect
anything which could end up making a box
are a little too overprotective and
could even learn into a dog turning
aggressive although the boxer can be
very good in this field he simply is no
match for the world-renowned German
Shepherd who takes another round here so
we have our first whitewash of the
tournament with the German Shepherd
