GERMAN SHEPHERD vs TIBETAN MASTIFF! The Best Guard Dog Breed!

so you want to know the ultimate guard
dog breeders well today’s first round
contest sees the Tibetan Mastiff and the
German Shepherd looking to eliminate
each other and move on to the
quarterfinals so without further ado
let’s get straight into round one of our
five round fight whoever wins the most
rounds progresses
[Music]
round number one the intimidation factor
German Shepherd males can grow 60 to 65
centimeters weighing 30 to 40 kilos with
females 55 to 60 centimeters weight 22
to 32 kilos the German Shepherd is a
midsize and large dog that boasts being
a little longer in the body than they
are tall there are powerful muscular
dogs of extremely weather resistant
coats they’re very well proportioned
dogs were slightly domed foreheads and
nicely web shaped muzzles their eyes are
almond shaped and medium in size with
dark brown being the preferred color
although lighter eye colors are
acceptable the German Shepherd has a
lively intelligent expression and gives
the impression of being a confident and
self-assured character the German
Shepherd is a well proportioned dog
which sees well muscled shoulders and
legs they are long in the body compared
to their height with a deep chest that’s
neither too broad nor too thin their top
line falls away very slightly from their
wither down to the croup and
hindquarters a well muscled strong and
broad with very powerful back legs their
feet are well rounded with short dark
nails and their pads are extremely well
cushioned German Shepherds have long
tails that they hold in a curve when at
rest and a little higher when they move
although they never hold their tails
higher than the level of their backs
when it comes to their coat there are
two different types in the German
Shepherd with the first being short and
the second being long but both are
extremely weather resistant longer
coated German Shepherds have much longer
outer coats which don’t necessarily have
to be straight or close lying but they
do have a very dense and thick undercoat
the hair on the inside and behind the
dogs is is markedly longer so it forms
moderate sized Tufts the hair on the
back of a dog’s head front legs is
longer and through to their loins to
which where their hind legs being
densely feathered tails are bushy having
slight amount of feathering on the
underside and the german shepherd dog
has a quiet and unique gait and they
move positively covering a lot of ground
when they do they move forward placing
their feet diagonally with a front leg
and opposite back leg moving at the same
time they throw a back foot forward to
the midsection of their bodies all while
having a long reach with that front feet
which does not alter the shape of their
back lines Tibetan Mastiff males can
grow up to 66 centimeters weighing 45 to
72 kilos were female 61 centimeters but
around a similar weight the Tibetan
Mastiff is a powerful looking dog that
both
of bone they’re well-built and boasts
thickest long double coats of an
extremely bushy tail that curls over the
back of their backs although heavy
locking the Tibetan Mastiff is very
light on their feet and they’re capable
of showing a fast turn of speed when
needed and males have a more pronounced
Mane than their female counterparts they
have broad heavy heads of a well-defined
occiput and stop their muzzles are quite
bored and blunt with nice broad black
noses with open nostrils dogs can have a
little wrinkling on their heads when
they mature which adds to their overall
appeal and their eyes are dark brown and
color medium and size of a very
expressive look about them and they are
set wide apart Overland shape is
slightly slanting and their eye rims are
dark and tight Tibetan Mastiffs both
strong level backs of muscular broad
loins of a slightly sloping group their
chests are deep and moderately broad
with an oval ribcage and Wellspring ribs
that are carried well back their
hindquarters are extremely muscular and
powerful with dogs having strong well
muscled bat legs with some dogs having
double dewclaws feet are quite large
with dogs having thick well-rounded and
compact paw pads and lots of every
between each of their toes a Tibetan
Mastiff tail is one of the breeds
defining features being wonderfully
feathered and curling over a dog’s back
and typically to one side when it comes
to their coat the Tibetan Mastiff boasts
very long thick double coats with the
undercoat being heavy and woolly the top
coat is finer and straight with the hair
on a dog’s face being shorter than that
of the rest of their body the hair and
their neck and their shoulders as long
go it’s thicker which creates their Mane
tails and upper parts of their back legs
are very well feathered and the
acceptable colors for the Kennel Club
registration a black black and tan gold
gray grey and gold or gray and tan
marking above the dog’s eyes and on
their muscles chests lower part of their
legs and underside to their tail a very
rich in color and dogs can have a white
star on their chest and spectacles
around their eyes some white on their
feet is also acceptable
obviously intimidation is a subjective
decision and it may be the easy option
to choose the bigger dog breed but in
this case I don’t believe that to be
true the Tibetan Mastiff is a large and
imposing dog but they have the
resemblance to stereotypical kind gentle
breeds like the st. Bernard Newfoundland
or Bernese Mountain Dog whereas the
German Shepherds reputation cranks up
the
intimidation dial 211 for the average
Joe who just knows them as police or
military dogs and therefore when round
one for me round number two the bark and
bite force while these dogs are
generally passive they can become
defensive if they or their families are
put in danger they have a strong bite
force of 238 psi their bite is strong
enough to break any bone in the human
body or to confront any other animal
that may threaten them and now let’s
check out their bark and see if it
stacks up for a guard dog a Tibetan
Mastiff is reported towards the top of
the entire canine world when it comes to
bite force which is to be expected as a
Mastiff breed and with a commonly
reported bite force of around 500 psi
now let’s check out if they have a bark
that matches that insane bite on the
bark front I see both breeds is fairly
even but the dramatic increase in the
Tibetan Mastiff bite force lets him claw
back this round and level the contest
out one round each round number three
trainability German Shepherds are
renowned for their intelligence and
alertness and loyalty however they are
not the best choice for first-time
owners because they need to be expertly
and calmly handled with a firm yet
gentle hand these dogs must know their
place in the pack and that their owner
is the alpha dog or they could display
more dominant behaviors which can lead
to all sorts of problems which can make
a German Shepherd that much harder to
handle being essentially a working dog
German Shepherds need lots of mental
stimulation as well as enough daily
exercise to be truly happy and well
balanced dogs when they’re in the home
environment because they are so
intelligent they are quick to learn new
things and this includes picking up bad
habits all too easily if left to their
own devices and not given the right
amount of daily exercise and mental
stimulation a German Shepherd dog may
well become a little destructive and
noisy around the home and it could be
put down to sheer boredom German
Shepherds are highly intelligent and
need a tremendous amount of mental
stimulation to be truly well-rounded
care
and in the right hands with the correct
amount of training they are extremely
responsive to commands that they are
taught they excel when they take part in
obedience classes for this very reason
and there are particularly receptive to
voice commands when the right sort of
intonation is used German shepherds
respond well to positive reinforcement
and will not accept any harsh methods of
handling which includes the way they are
corrected when they get something wrong
well handled they excel at all the
canine sporting activities which
includes agility flyball and obedience
but they can also be seen working as
rescue dogs tracking dogs and helping
the police and other authorities in
their work
all of which the jobs which German
shepherds take in their stride it is
worth noting that German shepherds pick
new things up very quickly and respond
well to a command even when they’ve only
been given it four or five times puppies
need to be taught ground rules of
commands right from the word go and
their training must be consistent so
dogs understand what an owner expects of
them as previously mentioned an adult
German Shepherd should always be handled
firmly and fairly to make sure they
understand their place in the pack and
who is the alpha dog in a household
they are never happier when they know
who they can look to for guidance and
direction and the key to successfully
training a German Shepherd is to always
be consistent and to make training chef
sessions short and interesting which
helps a German Shepherd stay focused on
what is being asked of them the Tibetan
Mastiff is known to be an intelligent
dog but their training must be
consistent right from the word go they
do boast a bit of a stubborn streak in
them and will show a more dominant side
to their nature if they are not
correctly handled and trained when they
are young it is also essential for
puppies to be well socialized from a
young age which means introducing them
to new people situations and other
animals as soon as they’ve been fully
vaccinated for them to mature into well
rounded dogs Tibetan Mastiff puppies are
very cute but they grow up to be
impressive strong large adult dogs all
too quickly and as such new owners need
to start out as they mean to go on by
laying out ground rules so that puppy
understands what it is that is expected
of them no need to spend much time here
no competition at all with the German
Shepherd taking a 2-1 lead round number
4 health and life expectancy the average
life expectancy of a German Shepherd is
between 9 and 13 years or sometimes
longer when properly cared for if had an
appropriate good quality diet suit their
ages
with this set the breed is known to
suffer from certain hereditary and
acquired health issues which includes
hip and elbow dysplasia pituitary
dwarfism exocrine pancreatic
insufficiency
pancit itis bloated gastric torsion
epilepsy and rise in toxicity the
average life expectancy of a Tibetan
Mastiffs is between nine and twelve
years again when properly cared for and
fed an appropriate good quality diet and
like so many other breeds the Tibetan
Mastiff is known to suffer from a few
hereditary health issues as well which
are worth knowing about if you’re
planning to share your home with one of
these active and impressive looking dogs
the conditions that seem to affect this
breed the most include hip and elbow
dysplasia
I use thyroid deficiencies skin
allergies and again bloat and gastric
torsion it seems to plague many large
dog breeds it is also worth noting that
bitches typically only have one season a
year which is usually in the autumn
incredibly close around here that I’m
going to award to the German Shepherd
for a slightly longer life expectancy
and more excellent breeding lines to
choose from to ensure that you get a
healthy well bred dog something that is
a bit tougher to do with it’s a bit a
mastiff Brown number five fearless
loyalty German Shepherd dogs make
excellent watchdogs because the need to
protect is a trait that is deeply
embedded in their psyche and why the
breed has always been such a highly
regarded guard dog throughout the world
German Shepherds are one of the most
popular breeds the world over and
consistently been so for many years
extremely loyal and intelligent the
German Shepherd is not only a great
choice as a family pet but they’re
extremely versatile in a working
environment – over the years the breed
has been used by police forces in many
countries and they play a vital role in
the army thanks to their intelligence
alertness resilience stamina reliability
and extraordinary scenting skills loyal
and courageous the German Shepherd is an
elegant and proud dog that soon lets an
owner know when strangers are around
which is one of the reasons why they’ve
been that’s always highly prized watch
dogs throughout the world and because
they are so intelligent German Shepherds
need lots of mental stimulation a
physical exercise to be truly happy
well-rounded dogs they also need to be
correctly trained and handled with a
firm and gentle hand so they know who
the alpha dog is in the household and
German Shepherds are never happier than
when they know their place in the pack
and who to look for for direction and
guidance becoming valued members of a
family Tibetan Mastiffs and natural
watchdogs and the need to protect his
trait that is deeply embedded into their
psyche they do not need to be trained to
protect which could end up making a dog
more aggressive and dominant which leads
to them becoming harder to manage and
handle for centuries he’s imposing dogs
earned the reputation of being legendary
Guardians in their native Himalaya where
they have always been highly prized more
recently a Tibetan Mastiff was sold for
a record price making the dog the most
expensive in the world today these noble
large dogs are still quite rarely seen
in the UK but the breeds popularity is
gaining momentum all thanks to the fact
that the Tibetan Mastiffs have such kind
and loyal nature’s this round has fast
become the hardest round for me to judge
in every contest of the tournament so
far as all sixteen breeds are undeniably
fearless Guardians however we need a
winner I’m gonna go with my slightly
controversial method of imagining myself
being attacked and if I had to choose a
breed to be by my side to protect me
with their fearless loyalty in this case
I’m taking the Tibetan Mastiff however
the German Shepherd does win this close
contest three rounds to two and advances
to the quarterfinals of our tournament
where it will take on the Belgian
Malinois in what will be an epic clash
of titans click top left for the whole
