Hero dachshund helps save St. Bernard
good afternoon a little dog is being
hailed a hero for saving his much larger
buddy one Datsun persistence led to a
dramatic water rescue of a st. Bernard
here’s news 13s Erin dra horn with the
incredible story erin incredible indeed
Kim the owner believes his 180 pound st.
Bernard was stuck in a cold muddy ditch
for about 18 hours and it’s all because
of a little dachshund did Belen
firefighters and police raced to the
rescue jazzy is now safe and sound
on the road to recovery but Sunday
afternoon the nine year old st. Bernard
got loose razor his dachshund pal tried
to let their owner Tim Chavez know
something was wrong I went to feed him
and he was kind of going crazy trying to
get my attention as Chavez was about to
go to work Monday razor kept trying to
alert everyone to something barking at
the neighbor too he noticed that razor
was kind of running amuck and just
causing a scene and trying to get his
attention all for a good reason
jazzy was in a bad predicament razor
took off through the field along the
irrigation ditch and showed up here and
this is the spot that that job he was
actually stuck in she is stuck down here
at least two feet stuck into the mud a
passerby followed razor and saw jazzy in
the ditch next thing you know eight
Belen police and firefighters were
pulling off a ditch rescue using
backboard straps and a long spine board
just like they would for a person
rescuers saved the big dog it’s never
happened in my career and then you know
it’s in this business we see a lot of
things and this is the first time that
we participated in something like this
police wouldn’t have it any other way
public safety is rule number one and
preservation of life whether it’s going
to be an animal or human being Chavez is
grateful his four-legged friend is home
sweet home it really means a lot
Chavez has another dog that also ran
away from home on Sunday the
is a picture of the missing animal it’s
a missing pitbull terrier her name is
Layla he certainly wants her back home
as welcome back to you
Thank You Erin now the city of Belen
will officially present an award to
raiser at its City Council meeting on
March the second
