How to Make a Dog Bed With Pillows : Tips for Dog Lovers
hi i’m jen fidel the pack mom here to
make your life as a pet parent a bit
easier and today we’re actually going to
make it a bit less expensive as well
today’s tip how to make a dog bed out of
pillows really really easy and i am in
no way a sower or a seamstress so i did
my whole project without a thread or a
needle so first go to your super center
by a couple of inexpensive pillows or if
you have a couple of pillows at home
that you just need to recycle grab those
once you choose your size
grab your measuring tape you’re going to
take a couple of really good
measurements of your pillows so you’re
going to start off by putting the
pillows together side by side the
longest side of the pillows together
you’re going to measure these pillows
are about three feet by two feet so you
always want to add a little bit extra so
have your pen and paper handy and write
down three on your longest side add
about six inches on your shortest side
add about two to three inches so my
measurement really is going to be three
feet six inches and two feet three
inches and that will get us started
I also found pillow covers that are
water resistant which is a good thing
when you’re talking about dogs and
they’re supposed to keep out bedbugs so
in my mind if they’re keeping out
bedbugs or keeping out fleas as well so
you’re going to start off after you’ve
measured fill your pillow protector with
your pillows and zip it up and you’re
ready to start so I’m just going to do
one for time sake but let’s say we just
put both in our pillow protectors now
find material that you really like so in
my case I had these old table cloths
that I had used at Christmas like three
years ago literally at that time I got
them for five dollars each so at this
point it’s probably zero dollars
I’ve cut them to the right shape three
by six by two by three and I’m going to
put them with the nicer prettier side
facing each other so here’s my nicer
prettier side and it’s going to be back
to back with the nicer prettier side of
the other pillowcase other pillow cover
so once you’ve done that you’re going to
have kind of the uglier sides of your
fabric facing you
now again I’m no seamstress at all I
think I took a sewing class in the fifth
grade and probably failed but I chose to
use this is called fusion webbing
iron-on strips so easy and so so
convenient and they actually really hold
together well so what you’re going to do
is you’re going to line your pretty side
of the fabric with the fusion webbing or
if you’re choosing to sew you’re going
to you know put your pins in that
location as well so you know where to
sew you’re going to cut it you’re going
to then put the other pretty side of
your fabric right against it you’re
going to use an iron on the wool setting
so it’s going to be pretty hot it’s
going to be probably the next two
hottest setting on your iron and you
want to use a steam iron because as you
iron you’re going to squirt your fabric
with water and you’re going to just iron
and usually what I like to do is instead
of ironing straight onto the fabric
because that is a really hot temperature
you’re going to use another cotton
fabric first so cover it with a towel or
a t-shirt or something that’s going to
just add a little protection hot iron
steam squirt you’re going to let it sit
on each piece of your fabric for ten
seconds once you do that throughout the
length you’re going to let it cool
you’re going to flip that fabric over do
the same thing on the other side you’re
going to do that same thing on three
sides of your fabric leaving one side
but this is my finished product and
almost finished that is so what I’ve
done is I’ve taken one pillow stuffed it
into the pillowcase then so there’s no
gap in between pillows I’ve added a
couple of old towels so there are two
old towels kind of rolled in a
rectangular shape in here as well then I
stuffed my second pillow in I’ve left
the third side open at this point but
what I’m going to do is I’m going to
fold it in on itself and I have iron-on
velcro that I’m going to put on the
pillow and on this third flap and that’s
going to be the enclosure so whenever
the the cover gets dirty or is ready for
a weekly or bi-weekly wash I can just
take it off very quickly throw it into
my washing machine dry it on a low
setting put it right back on my pillows
so it’s clean it’s easy and it’s
