How to Stop Dogs From Mounting Other Dogs : Dog Behavior & Training
I’m Justin share dog behavioral therapist and master trainer with bark Buster some dog training and today I’m going to talk to you about how to stop a dog from mounting another dog so how to stop a dog from mounting other dogs you first have to look at well why is the dog mounting another dog it’s it typically is a communication and an act of dominance and/or it is an act of wanting to reproduce boils down to one thing is your dog fixed so in order to correct the dog for mounting another dog as with any behavior you have to catch the dog in the act you have to have some form of verbal control and leadership over your dog when you want it to stop first again you have to think about and consider fixing your dog to eliminate that intent of wanting to mount another dog and lastly if your dog is in the act of mounting another dog you as the leader and as the authority figure and trainer of your dog has to express that that behavior is unwanted and again it goes back to the verbal correction that we use and it’s not an angry correction it’s not punishment it’s just a tone that the dog interprets as a correction and it’s a growl tone essentially that they use with each other ah again what it does is it redirects is the dog to you and the dog knows because you’ve corrected it in the act of the mounting it knows that mounting is an unwanted behavior by you the authority figure the leader once it D dismounts then you want to encourage at the acknowledgement of the correction and that is by saying good boy good girl and you would correct as needed again I’m Justin share dog behavioral therapist and master trainer with bark Buster’s home dog training you
