How to Train your Dog or Puppy to Sit and Stay | How I Trained Buddy (Easy Dog Training at Home)
With this video, we are starting our training series Today we will learn how to Sit and Stay But please make sure to watch my Rules of training video If you haven’t seen it, then do see that as it’s a very important video because i have covered some basic rules which will help you in the training process.
If you have seen the video, then let’s get started And we have training treats So the best time for the training is when the puppy just woke up and if he is hungry as i mentioned in my Rules of training video These training treats are used for training as it has very less calories and we will further break these in half so that we can do more training in less calories It is a Chicken rice formula which Buddy loves a lot First, we will learn Sit command as its very important and very basic and is very easy As you can see Buddy is up right now and he is going towards the treat so the idea of Sit is very simple, you just need to take the treats over his head and the moment his hip/butt touches ground, speak Yes you can also use a clicker and many people use it I like to use Yes and it’s the same thing and you can see i haven’t used the Sit word we will introduce the word later but will teach him action first so let me change my position you can see he is thinking that he is going as per my plan then only he is getting the treats now we will introduce the word so you should do this regularly and at least 15 mins everyday he will learn the meaning of the word if you do this 15 mins everyday Buddy is already trained but this is how you train a puppy to sit now we will train him to Stay ok the first funda of Stay is you should start slowly your puppy won’t learn to Stay instantly and you will have to train for 1 sec then 2 seconds let’s see how we will do this as you saw I haven’t told him to Stay but what I am teaching him is if you wait for some time then you will get treats There are 3 things very important in the Stay training These are called Triple Ds First we will work on Duration meaning how long can we make him stay so you saw i am increasing duration little by little and when he masters it then i will introduce the word and say Yes to mark it to let him know that this is the expected behavior.
You can also use a clicker oh Buddy performed this one so well that he was looking in my eyes directly and was waiting for my gesture and yes, gesture is very important too it will save you from speaking Stay everytime the pup will relate the gesture too when he sees the gesture he will understand that this means Stay see how because Buddy is already trained he knows this means Stay so you should use gesture and word both and your pup will learn it soon.
This was duration and now we will work on Distance Distance meaning how far can you go and make the puppy Stay because if you are too far then there is a less chance that your puppy will follow your command again you should start very gradually you have to train him gradually you saw I just went one step back and gave him the treat so what he learned is my human went little far then he gave me the treats and this is the expected behavior and i haven’t used the Stay word your puppy will start walking towards you, Buddy is trained your puppy will start moving towards you so try to give him treat before he starts walking to you so that he learns that I get treats when I don’t move and when it starts to happen then we will introduce the Stay word now we will checkout Distraction Distraction meaning if there is something in front of the puppy even if it’s his favorite thing like a treat or a toy even then he should stay and should not break it let’s see how we will do that again funda is simple, start from basic either the treat or a toy, drop it very gently on the ground so that he is not distracted and if you drop the thing suddenly he will be distracted for sure, so start gradually if he is taking correct actions like you saw he didn’t move for 2 seconds then we will treat him, if he moves then we will not treat him now we will introduce the Stay word you can do this with a toy, food or a toy next level of stay training is to mix all 3 meaning you will mix duration, distance and distraction so this is duration now it is distance now it is distraction you won’t get this instantly and will take time to reach at this level but with practice it will also happen you can see Buddy is still holding even after so long I am away from Buddy so it is Distance he have treat in front of him still not eating it, so it’s Distraction you will get this level one day with patience and practice you can do this so this was our Sit and Stay training and we will have more training videos on this channel because lot of training and funny videos will be coming and if you liked this video then share with your friends too
