IS YOUR DOG PREPARED? 😳 How I’m preparing for emergencies & isolation

you are in a situation where your
shelter-in-place and you’re not really
allowed to leave your home unless it’s
for essential needs a highly highly to
another dog vlog in this video I’m going
to be sharing my pets emergency packing
list and emergency plan when there’s
natural disasters or pandemics these are
the 10 things that I make sure I have
packed ready to go and prepared for my
two dogs and my cat so let’s jump into
this video right now times are uncertain
that’s terrifying for pet parents so I
hope that this list of steps and things
to pack in times of emergencies is
helpful to you and your family so the
first thing on the list is of course
make sure that you have at least two
emergency vets written down on your
phone or in paper and you know what
their hours are and where they’re
located and they’re easily accessible
because in times of emergencies everyone
is more stressed and sometimes you know
things happen to our pets they get into
something and get injured and they need
help in times of non normal business a
second thing is if you’re in a situation
where you might need to evacuate maybe
it’s a hurricane you need to make sure
that the harnesses the cat carrier and
the travel crates for your dog or and/or
cat are in the car strapped in ready to
go third thing on this list is at least
one gallon of water per pet so I have
three gallons individual gallons of
water for each of my pets ready to go
and one to two weeks of food ready to go
as well if your dog is eating a raw
fresh food you can make sure that you
have something like a Yeti cooler that
you can put the food in and don’t keep
it cold
I also recommend in times of scarcity or
again if you need to evacuate that you
have an extra bag of kibble or dry food
for your pets even if you feed a raw
fresh food diet just in case you need it
I’m not saying to stockpile and hoard
five months of food I’m just saying make
sure you if you normally keep about
three to five days worth of food at a
time maybe make sure you have about one
to two weeks of food that way you’re
prepared ready to go and if you are in a
situation where you may need to evacuate
have that packed in the car if you’re in
a situation
where there are diseases or pandemics
going on which a lot of the world today
is going through not a lot all of it
one thing you can consider and this is a
little tricky with self isolation but
one thing you can consider is having a
list of friends and family nearby that
in the event you as the pet owner
especially if you’re alone you live
alone with your pets that should you get
sick and in an unfortunate situation and
unable to take care your pets properly
that you have a list of people or at
least one other person that you can call
on to say hey I’m fallen ill and I’m not
able to take care of my pets can you
step in and I understand that in these
specific situations that’s kind of tough
with self isolation but I do think that
generally speaking for emergency
preparedness it’s important to have some
backup support and help if at all
possible mental health is so critically
important for both you and your pet in
times of uncertainty emergencies
pandemics isolations and so if you are
packing a go bag or you’re getting all
of your getting prepared for being
yourself isolating make sure you have a
couple of your dogs favorite toys or toy
types and some of their favorite treats
these little things can make a big
difference especially if you have to
leave your home or even if you’re
staying home having those readily
available can really help improve your
dog’s mental health and if you guys want
videos on how to tire your dog if you’re
stuck inside click the video linked up
here or link down below I have some tips
for you on rainy days or again days
where you’re stuck indoors and you can’t
leave your hell on a similar note in
your go-bag make sure you have packed a
small towel or a small blanket something
your dog is familiar with that can
double as something to clean up messes
with if needed and or something for your
dog to lay on again if you’re in
situations where you’re stuck somewhere
or you may be stuck somewhere having
some of that familiar scents and smells
on fabric can really be comforting to
your dog and of course you want to have
collapsible water bowls and dog bowls
packed with you as well as poop bags or
whatever you use to pick up poop because
again if you have to leave your house in
your dogs go potty you don’t want to
leave a mess out and a next way to
prepare is to make sure that your dogs
and your cat
have caller with updated tags with your
updated information so making sure that
the right phone number and address is on
them you also want to make sure that
their microchips are updated every
microchip company I’ve seen so far you
can register your pets information on
their website that way if they get lost
they can be taken to a shelter or
veterinarian and they can scan it and
it’s really important that your
subscriptions to these microchip plans
and your current housing information and
phone number are updated and accurate
you also want to make sure that you have
leashes readily available if you usually
keep your leash in the back far closet
or the back of the garage and they’re
kind of hard to get to get your leashes
out for your dogs and have them next to
your purse or in your go bag so that if
you need to evacuate or leave your house
on a short notice you’re able to do the
pro tip for this and I’m more Pro tips
coming at the end so make sure you stay
tuned is if you have a GPS collar make
sure they’re charged make sure they’re
on your pets that way again if something
happens you’re able to track your
animals and on that note for a second
pro tip is make sure that you have an
external charger that you have packed in
your go bag for those GPS collars
because in the event you have to leave
your home you want to keep those GPS
collars on and charged so you want to
make sure that if you’re in a place with
limited electricity you can still charge
that the fifth thing on the list is
making sure that you have all of your
pets medical records and information
easily readily easily accessible and in
your go bag so that means that if your
dogs are vaccinated you have those
medical records print it out if possible
and in your go bag if they’re tighter
diff you’re tighter in your pets same
thing have those those documents at
least saved in your phone if your pets
are on any medication that you have it
written out
ideally laminated but if not you can put
the paper in plastic as a block bag but
have the medications of your pets
written out by name and describe the pet
that it goes to if you have multiple
pets so I have a chocolate lab and then
I have a doodle mix I’ll show you here
fins right here with me and fortunately
in luck
they’re not on daily medication but if
they were I would have written on the
piece of paper dog’s name dog breed dog
color so I would say for example Bentley
chocolate lab takes X amount of
medication X amount of times a day and
this is the reason for it and here’s the
prescription number so you want to have
all that so in the event something
happens and somebody else gets acting
it’s hold of your animals then they are
able to give the medications and keep it
going accurately and on that same paper
I would put your veterinarians name and
information just so everything is there
and of course if your animal has any
issues you know I would I would list
that out in that same note make sure
that if your dogs are updated on their
rabies that your rabies tags are on your
dogs or at least in that paper with that
paper so that everything is good to go
you can actually take the tag and tape
it to the paper so it’s all in one spot
this next one might seem a little silly
but if you have a dog like me like Finn
who is a doodle mix that we rescued at
like four and a half months old who has
a very tricky coat to maintain make sure
in your go bag that you had a comb a
brush and nail clippers this means that
if you have to stay in a hotel
or at a friend’s house or in a different
state for weeks or even months in
whatever crazy situation you might be
him you’re able to keep their nails
short you’re able to comb them and keep
them from getting matted and if you
groom your dogs yourself like I do you
could even throw in the Clippers and
there might seem silly to those of you
who don’t have dogs with difficult coats
to manage but allowing your dog to get
super matted in times of crisis is only
gonna add more stress to this might
sound a little silly but I would take
the paper where you had all their
medications and vet information written
down and actually add a picture of your
pet with their name written on it age
gender spayed neutered all of that that
way again if you’re separated from your
pets it’s with all their paperwork and
people know what they look like and this
way also if your dogs get lost people
can post pictures of them on websites
and you can see that that’s your dog in
your picture now for a couple bonus tips
and then I have some best practices
after that so for the first bonus tip if
you are in a situation where your
shelter in place and you’re not really
allowed to leave your home unless it’s
for essential needs a highly
I would highly recommend that you shop
for your pets at your local independent
pet stores as of right now as of today
pet stores local independent pet stores
are deemed as essential businesses which
means that even the situation’s of
pandemic they are open and they do
curbside pickup if you’re worried about
germs or sanitation I highly recommend
to do that instead of relying on big box
online stores because independent pet
stores independent local shops are what
keep our economy live in a vibrant times
of uncertainty it is important that
especially if you’re stuck indoors like
we are right now like in this very
moment we are shelter in place we’re not
allowed to leave our home or were highly
urged not to leave our home unless it’s
essential and critical to leave it’s
important to keep routine the best you
can try to keep feeding schedules
somewhat Simula similar try to you know
wake up and get ready in the morning
like you normally do and this is all
important for the mental health of your
dog if you’ve never meditated before or
practiced controlled deep breathing now
is the time to do that especially if
you’re stuck indoors for the mental
health of your dog again I have a video
linked up here and down below on ways to
tire your dog out inside if you can’t go
outdoors or I have a video linked right
here as well if you’re able to go
outside just your yard and the weather
is nice that’s a quick way to tie your
dog if you’re watching this video you’re
likely currently in or about to
potentially be in an uncertain situation
that requires you to prepare for an
emergency or to self isolate or shelter
in place and not leave your home and
that can be a really scary time
especially for pet parents when our pets
no matter how much how hard we try
they’ll never understand why our levels
of anxiety and stress are higher than
pretty much ever before the heart goes
out to you and I just want you to know
that together I feel confident that
we’re going to get through this and I
will continue to put out content to
help support you with your questions and
your journey and I just want you guys to
know that I am proud of what you’re
doing right now I’m proud of you for
preparing for your pet in whatever
situation that is coming up I’m proud of
you for loving your pet the way that you
do comment below if you need support or
if you don’t need support and you’re
feeling strong right now or you’re
watching this just for fun and a happier
time leave some positivity below because
there are some people watching this
video right now that are really
struggling and we need positivity if you
want a video on how to stop your dog
from jumping up click the video right
here and if you want a video on my
favorite supplement to give your dog
click the video right here and I hope
you have a bee
