Pet Corrector – Easily Solve Many Dog Training Behavior Problems
is Steve with sr dog training today I’m
going to talk about a tool and technique
that solves a lot of dog owners needs so
I get a lot of emails and calls every
week in regards to dogs who are doing
noise annoyance barking counter surfing
stealing different items in the
household
maybe inviting the leash on walks
there’s a whole host of different things
this tool approach can solve and that’s
I want to address today now the tool
that I’m talking about is pet corrector
so it’s basically a can of compressed
air similar to that of a computer
keyboard cleaner so make sense a hissing
sound which dogs find you know slightly
annoying and it’s used as a noise
interrupt
so other noise interrupts so you might
be more familiar with our shake can full
of pennies even clapping your hands
anything that interrupts that the dog is
currently doing via an audible sound is
what we’re looking to do
however pet corrector has a high success
rate in my experience or clients so over
the hundreds of dogs that I’ve worked
with I’ve seen tremendous success with
pet corrector and that’s why I want to
talk about it today with you so this is
you know up to you as whether this is an
appropriate choice for you and your dog
but I want to present it now the key
with pet corrector is that we
consistently use it when the dog is
partaking in the given action so whether
the dog be counter surfing barking
whatever it is we want to be consistent
in its application and the initial
introduction to the dog so we can’t just
use it you know three out of five times
at the dog barks we want to be on this 5
out of 5 times or as close to that as we
can so the dog gets the point that every
time they conduct that given action the
pet corrector is going to be followed up
now we only want to use pet corrector
for a specific behavior issue one at a
time so my dog barks I’m going to use
this for barking I’m not going to use it
for barking counter surfing and leash
biting we’re going to pick one issue
address that issue once that’s resolved
then we can move on the other thing you
want to keep in mind with pet corrector
is that we don’t spray this in the dog’s
face we are simply spraying it in the
air as an audible noise
the other thing you want to keep in mind
is our timing so if we’re addressing
camera surfing your dog goes to jump on
an item of furniture the counter to
steal something I want to make sure that
I’m able to spray this as soon as the
dog has their front paws up on the
counter of that item the dog is already
resumed all four paws on the ground or
the dog is done and given action at a
prior time obviously we can’t correct
for that the timings been lost the
correlation isn’t going to be made so
timing is important consistency is
important using this for one particular
behavior at a time is essential and not
spraying this at the dog’s face now the
rate of which the pressure I apply to
this button is going to dictate how loud
the noises so if the dogs up on the
counter I want to say a command
whether it be off leave it your dogs
barking if you want to say quiet stop
the verbage that use is up to you and
that’s arbitrary the only thing is the
dog is going to learn what that word and
command is based on the follow up with
this so my dog is jumping up on a
counter counter surfing and I say just
make up a dog st. Max so I’m going to
say max off and I’m going to follow up
with pet corrective so it’ll be max off
and that was just a small little tap so
you want to use the minimally effective
those here so all it takes is a little
tap like that that’s fine if my dogs
barking and I say max quiet I can give a
little bit more of an amplified hiss of
the pet corrector if they’re up the dogs
barking now by saying the command prior
to the action of the pet corrector it
gives more value to that command so that
would also be reliant on pet corrector
forever so that way when I say max quiet
he’ll respond and stop barking because
he’s been conditioned that it could be
followed up with pet corrector so after
just a few uses of this most owners that
I’ve worked with have seen a distinctive
diminishment of that behavior so it’s an
extremely useful tool that I wanted to
bring to you today the hopefully if it’s
appropriate for you and your dog solve
your dog training problems
