Pit Bull attacks German Shepherd Police dog on patrol
evening everyone
another pitbull attack this one with a
twist this time the victim is a member
of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office but
it isn’t a case of dog bites man kcci’s
mark tauscheck explains mark well the
victim of this attack was another dog
and a pitbull involved definitely
learned it’s lesson the two robbery
suspects were spotted by police in the
back of a Des Moines taxi so officers
tried to pull the taxi over to make the
arrests the driver had no idea he was
chauffeuring around two wanted men so I
went to stop when I stopped they opened
the doors and bailed one ran east one
ran West and his officers descended on
the neighborhood a call went out to Polk
County send a k-9 unit immediately on
duty that day deputy mark Moore and his
partner Damian immediately went to work
sniffing for a scent there was a hat
from one of the suspects and then a
jacket I think that the same suspect was
wearing awful the search came up empty
although one of the men was arrested the
next day
deputy Moore says the search had just
been called off and they were walking
back to their squad car along this
sidewalk when the pitbull came out of
nowhere it kind of startled me cuz he
was right underneath me and then I know
he was Larry came from behind me the
pitbull lunged at Damian and they
started fighting locking up immediately
my reaction was to pull Damian back and
as I was pulling him back I fell to the
ground
deputy Moore says he tried to pull
Damian away but he could not get the two
dogs separated that’s when a Des Moines
police officer ran up and actually used
his Taser on the pitbull it seized up
shortly and then one of the prongs came
out and then he ended up running off
with another prong still stuck in him
Mora says he’s thankful the Des Moines
officer was there and the Taser worked
and that his partner got out of the
scrape okay
more than likely I would have had to
shoot the football
of them by myself now the pitbull still
has not been found despite extensive
searches of the neighborhood the Animal
Rescue League Animal Control and local
veterinary offices have all been told to
keep an eye out for a tan-colored
pitbull brought in with a Taser barb in
its back or similar injury the owner
would face a fine probably for letting
their dog run loose well mark the
pitbulls could be very vicious as we all
know especially in a confrontation show
makes us wonder how Damian the canine
animal could handle itself German
Shepherd trained in police work
Damian can handle himself he’s gone in
two houses alone after criminals deputy
Moore was telling him he’s helped to
return several felons to prison so he’s
a very valuable tool he does a lot of
the hard work that you know doesn’t put
any of the human officers in danger he’s
got you badly hurt either
no no he’s doing well all right thank
you
