Rescued by the Beagle Freedom Project – Solomon’s Story
this is Vince Lia the healthy vegan guy
so glad you’re here today as many of you
know I started on my vegan journey
through plant-based foods and then found
out what it really meant to become vegan
and embrace the whole lifestyle and
learning about animal cruelty and also
about animal testing and that’s why I
wanted to focus on today I’m actually
going to be doing an interview with a
friend of mine named Jennifer who
rescued a beagle through the Beagle
freedom project and this beagle was
actually being tested on in two
different labs in Spain and she rescued
rescued this vigil a few years ago and
now it’s in a warm and loving family so
without further ado let’s go ahead and
start this interview we’re here with
Solomon and he was part of the Spanish
40 right um so you got an email from
friend saying that these dogs have been
rescued by the vehicle freedom project
how did that process go did you just
turn in your application how long ago
was it until they called you well um
when I got the actually the video I saw
the video and then they were actually
saying that they were Cody of these dogs
that were rescued and saying that we’re
going to be out of their cages for the
first time because these are they
spending most of their life time allowed
so I saw all the pictures I fell in love
with Salman and then I send the
application and it’s a while until they
responded they came home and did an
inspection just to make sure that we had
everything the dog needed for you know
safety purposes and then they email us
back and they said you are no accepted
for you please come just to make up you
know that connection with him so we went
with our daughter and
husband we visited him and it was a
great connection so we had a really good
chemistry thing and we bought him right
away also now when he came I mean being
in a lab for so long I mean his whole
life how did he respond was he was he
timid in the beginning was he scared of
people always absolutely scared at the
beginning very skinny um he was actually
in two different labs you can see that
he had some type of different tattoos
and you know each of his ears he was not
really eating well at the beginning he
needed to get used to the food and used
to the other dog so we had at that time
so but it took a while I might have to
say a year and a half really that you
have until he was used to everything the
surroundings a house that sounds the
family the new people by the space you
know he was very he had a very limited
space then and now he has a beard house
a bigger backyard so yeah home sweet
does he go up to people now or does he
allow sometimes you know if you’re if
you’re around him a lot like is if you
become familiar and he’ll come up to you
very easy but if he doesn’t know you it
takes a while and something that causes
you know we were surprised at the
beginning because we thought he was
strained he was drained oh he’ll would
sit down next to you and he will put his
fault oh so we didn’t know if he was
string so I called the Beagle freedom
project and asking this is sold but you
know had to be trained became before and
they said no he was in Katrina he was
not trained uh he was actually put in a
cage and he would put his paw up just to
make sure that he would take his more
blood testing so so he’s so used to just
that randomness tomorrow so this is live
up the bar for the blood testing not
religious to get a treat but um then we
reverse when he was doing that I would
give him a hug if he would do it again
or will just say no but it was not
working that I said I will just try to
give him a treat you to work it does
that so now you know he gets a treat and
he gave me so he never received a treat
before honey so did he even accept the
trees he he grabbed it you know he
doesn’t have all his teeth so if you
Lube some of these teeth are or somehow
no gone Oh what so was up from being the
cave he was yeah one up some of them
were rotten so they needed to clean them
up and some of them ha oh yeah I was
hard for him at the beginning so we had
to mix the food with a little bit of
water just so just to make sure that he
could just swallow it has it no but now
he is chewing he is fighting for his
treat give me those trees okay so he ate
he’s still pretty calm you don’t pretty
mellow but you know their moments where
we actually get straight up very
stressed out with Solomon because he
could be in a corner in shaping so I
think that he goes through pts and kind
of like panic attack so we don’t know
it’s just some reactions of the drugs
and equality went through what we know
how old is he uh he um you know when
they got him they said that he was
probably around eight got six years old
so add four more years so that song it’s
true yeah he’s a moldy oldie but did he
i was reading online on one of the
articles i think was to be go freedom
project about how some time and stay
with bark did you ever have issues with
him barking at certain times of the day
or issues with that at all yeah hee hee
bards he fouled and i have a very
interesting story with Solomon one of
the first things that they told me is
that these dogs because there’s
scared all the time and they’re not
really used some environments it would
skip easily one day my daughter came in
with her friends and one of the friends
the last one of course forgot to close
the door two of our dogs went out and
songs barking and barking and barking
and I thought like wait a second this
party is not very usual so when it came
to the living room I saw that Solomon
book wouldn’t stop barking and then I
saw him and I looked at the door and
there they were two dogs outside and saw
him didn’t you so he didn’t go but he
warned everybody was not yeah morn
everybody else went and all the other
dogs were gone so and the other thing is
that he’s pretty uh pretty meticulous
like you know he he has I may have to
say surviving skills I’m sure he’s
really good at bad he needs to taste
things around look them around like if I
gave him a piece of banana or or
anything you will just smell it you know
roll it and smashing what is what it
what is this piece of food man so he’s
pretty good he likes group that’s good
he’s doing really one he’s he looks
great yeah you know definitely got a
full code that’s big healthy you know
yeah when he came he was very skinny you
could actually see his backbone and his
chest it’s very pointy um but now he is
just a total difference Holloman he’s
free yeah oh I think that’s great that
you had the opportunity to do that and
rescue him and do they ever have contact
with any of the other people to measure
your side yeah that’s actually the
project is she so well organized bugle
freedom project last year Korea we had I
would have to say her reunion where most
of us went um you know the families that
rescue all these songs it was pretty
emotional because everybody recipe for
different reasons yeah I rescued because
I thought oh my gosh these dog is from
Spain my family has spanish background
and and you know Solomon could can
travel everywhere he has a passport so
um yeah we were there and we we exchange
or experiences that we saw that the dogs
were in great condition that we were
treating well the calendars they
prepared every year are amazing so I
will encourage people to wait until
December is to go on beagle Freedom
Project and all the social media and buy
it and support it you know you can go to
roughen just say that you want to give
old up percentage money for the Beagle
freedom project and they’ll be more than
happy to do that and receive it as well
it’s almost so Solomon is that a name
that you gave him or was that a name
that he already canvassed yeah he was
actually number eight based on the
records the big goofy project and the
folder name so eight a 48 of 40 and he
was named up there in Spain Tommy Lee
Jones just to make sure Tommy Lee Jones
she was already famous but NASA little
bit of ice grumpy characters was pretty
interesting and then of course when he
came down he his picture was already
there was Solomon so I just don’t love
me no we didn’t change I thought it was
it was aged so the fact that they came
from Spain was he I don’t know me I know
they were trained but did he was he’ll
use of people speaking Spanish compared
to English absolutely he speak Spanish
yes we understand Spanish oh I’ve last
been your mind’s been you understand one
now now we’re the dogs varied in ages
different relative friend I mean
unfortunately in terms of lab animals I
mean dog specially I’m talking about
beagles this is a very sweet and you
know kind of breed and that’s why
they’re likely using loss because there
it just love you there are sexy very
sense so they feel like if it’s a divot
a big of us not doesn’t harm a beagle or
anybody and they feel that that may be
good for a human right that’s it that’s
a crazy part in there they’re tested for
everything for you know for skin
irritation or hard and pulmonary disease
cancer everything so not even for
military purposes just soo couldn’t have
chemical weapons and all that stuff so
then they use it for everything they do
the it there in the lab and they’re good
we’ll be testing fifty percent of these
animals are actually tested and the
testing doesn’t stop until fifty percent
up that are dead and then the other
fifty percent it’s either recycle or
they 30 so he’s a lucky one for sure and
I hope that you know so many more can be
rescued adopting a dog is the best in
you I think is very opportunity to do

and have a couple brothers yeah with all
