Small Dog Agility Competition – 2016 Purina® Pro Plan® Incredible Dog Challenge® Western Regionals
well that’ll kick off the event here it’s the Western Regional Championships of the Purina Pro Plan incredible dog challenge about to now get underway it is the small dog agility first they will take to the field followed by large dog back to small dog for round two and then large dog round two it is the best of two scores or times in this case that count for the competitors so they have two shots at it as we look at an Swan coming out our first competitor the dog’s name is Kylie and it’s Australian Cattle Dog ten and a half years old female dog they will kick off for this Western Regional Championships in a small dog agility competition so chalene take us through what to expect what should the athletes be Haiming for here well since they have a two chances they’re gonna you know go for it here on the first one but then they have an opportunity to correct or try and make changes in their second round if they have any types of mistakes so I was starting to say before the national anthem that you know each of the dogs knows how to execute each of the obstacles but what they don’t know is the order that they’re in that is totally up to the handler to direct the dog to the right obstacle in the right order so you’re going to want to watch the handlers their body positioning their hand commands they give a lot of verbal cues and the dog is completely relying on watching the handler so here we go our first one on course and a professional dog trainer knows what she’s doing very fast this dog wanted fast ground speed getting to the obstacles and the force that helps executing the obstacle quickly and getting to them quickly jumping through in small dog style this is a nice clean run so far weather shaping up nope no rain no excuses and look at that there we go 34 seconds Wow so thirty thirty four point one one what do you mean we usually don’t we usually talk about thirty to thirty three being like really fat thirty four you know thirty five thirty six might get you on the podium bit this this could lock it down yeah thirty four point one one and a clean and run so the pressure is on here in Huntington Beach and again the dogs have no idea there’s the pressure but of course the handlers know what the time is and what they’re capable of doing with their dogs so it’s up to them to try and execute out here on the field amber Abbott now comes out on to the field with her dog Griffin a five-year-old male all-american and she talks about Griffin barks through the whole course doing just that it’s excited gonna let you know about it you know what’s great is that any dog any breed any mix can compete in the incredible dog challenge does it have to be a purebred you just have to take the time to practice and work with them and have a bigger buddy okay there are some mistakes that’s gonna cost them not only the penalty for having the mistake of the weave poles but then also the time to go back and make that correction and that’s where Jennifer our judge will spot those mistakes and faults and those faults will then turn into so if there’s five faults those will turn into seconds added on to your time kiss is there at the end the other important thing is to make sure they always touch that yellow contact zone and I’m thinking did she miss that there it was it was very close on that but they did make that mistake on the weaves but those contacts on the a-frame the dog walk and the teeter-totter have to be touched as they exit the obstacle that’s for safety so the dogs don’t jump off too soon and get hurt and for the teeter-totter the other thing that you want to remember is that the teeter actually has to touch the ground before the dog jumps off again for safety so they’ll come in chalene when it’s not clean they’ll have to add some time on with 53.46 will be the time after you add the faults so they will look for run to to redeem themselves and see what happens there and now we’re looking at Ashley Deakin and – this does not is this Ashley do we know Tyrrhenian Shepard seven-year-old whole think it is I’ve never never seen one of these new kind of lot of older dogs out here seven years old our first competitor ten and a half you know that’s quite old for a dog but still out here loving what they do and they’re all very fast 3406 is the raw time they have any faults I’m a dog walk looks like there was one so add a little time to that would have been the fastest time of the day had they had that fall too late yeah 3406 lightning and fast so with those with the dog walk missing that contacts are going to add 10 fault seconds onto the length of the run so forty four point zero six will be their final time but if they can correct that trace in the second run that run time would have put them on top of the podium so that’s where it is just so vitally important to try and get through it clean but these handlers are realizing how fast these times are and so they are pushing it for the speed but sometimes when you’re trying to go fast and get that speed that’s when mistakes are more easily made all right here’s a G that’s the name of the dog and six-year-old female miniature poodle teri Herrmann is the handler out there now for fourth competitor to go here in the small dog agility round one of five competitors they each get two runs up and off and going very quickly again the ground speed of these small dogs is pretty impressive here today you can watch these handlers I mean they’re having to pretty much keep at a full full running sprint we’ve got Terry directing a lot with her hands as you can watch out there because it she’s pretty fast she’s just trying to keep up yeah it looks good oh look a hesitation there because it was way past 30 907 nice one and that’s where you’ve got a bitch dog and that’s where it takes those last few seconds there you know when the dog turned around to say okay where do I go now you know that all cost them and with the fault that was on force 40 407 is the time for them on their first attempt so here’s the hesitation again I’m talking about you can just see the dogs don’t know where they’re going they’re looking for total direction and she was fast and out in front there and that cost them he need all brushes fractions battle coming in competitor now these small dog agility competition to regional championships kylie and cisco of rid of Riverton Utah Cisco is a seven-year-old male Corgi Cattle Dog mix the returning champions as well as Chilean so they know how to get it done yes they do of the Western regionals short legs and all does not make a difference for the Corgi out here on this course second the weep hole challenge at the finals in st. Louis in 2013 so a lot of experience in this team working together and a rescue dog from the Salt Lake City Humane Society Purina a big supporter of rescue dog operations it just goes to show that truly any dog can be incredible Wow so that is definitely our fastest run of the day so that wraps it up with the first round of large dog agility the time to beat their 32.3 to set by Carol Seaver and her dog schemer with the second final round of small dog agility and swamp and Kylie coming out now they had a really solid time of 34 1 1 in their first round so they need to speed it up a little bit if they’re gonna catch Keith’s highly in Sisco with their 32 5 1 and Swan and Kylie ten and a half year old Australian Cattle Dog Santa Barbara California so short drive for them to come down to Huntington Beach so far so good I have to pick up the speed just a teeny bit here it’s again 32.5 one is the time to beat coming in almost does it pretty similar to their first round this one thirty four point seven three so slower than round one so they will have to use their first round time as their keeper so once again they’ll they’re thirty four point one one second Griffin and amber a bot come down on this course run one 53.46 and that was after a few mistakes a few faults 38 for 6 with their raw time so they’re fast fast group here but they need to make sure that they have a clean run if they want to keep a good score get on that podium find out clean run so far super fast one small fault at the dog walk little hesitation after we’ve pulse that’ll all not only cost time and just the hesitation but obviously the faults will add a few more seconds that they didn’t want 30 6 8 8 see the dog walk just missing contact there and then that hesitation no mistake or fall off he had to go back through it no fault seconds added they’re just time at it in general because of that hesitation they’ll come in with a 50 1.88 and they’ll keep their first round no that will actually be their best 51 8/8 that’s the score that they will keep is we look at our third competitor coming out onto the pier Annette Arena – and Ashley deacon – is a seven year old Marine Ian Shepard male Pacifica California their first round time was a 4406 they had ten faults that they didn’t want their see if they can clean it up here in round two through the weaves clean quick through the tunnel it’s slowing down their sticks over that coming in thirty two point five one is still the best time here in this small dog agility competition they come in here looks like a clean rod Wow thirty three point four seven so that will move heaven this second place if all comes in clear with the judges which it looks like that’s the case still teeny bit of rain and mists coming off the coast here of Huntington Beach California you were watching the Western Regional Championships of the puter Pro plant incredible dog challenge second round of small dog agility top time 32.5 won by Keith Haile last year’s champion this is Terry Herrmann again coming out with eg the miniature poodle six year old female in a bit of trouble on the teeter totter round one perhaps because the light weight of that dog Yugi they came in with a time of forty four point zero seven in round number one just off the podium after that first round so let’s see what they could do here look at fast so far definitely a clean run there you go blazing through the we pulse here comes the teeter-totter and I was pretty quick there got it done we would come to the finish line and oh that hesitation right in there just cost of a second 37 637 6-1 that won’t cut it for a podium spot especially the 42.6 one they had a couple faults out into that so just off the podium Selene here’s the replay of the little miniature poodle couple hesitations right there at the end cost him a couple couple seconds think that was the same spot as the first run where she just really got out in front there and again had to stop and look back and say where am I going now and that is definitely a hold up victory lap for this guy right here keep eyeing the final competitor his run at one time of thirty two point five one held through the entire small bag and agility competition and it’s the final competitor that is the top time nobody can par in front of our now so now they’ll just try to have some fun and prove upon that time and enjoy the fact they will be the first couple invited to the national championship finals here from Huntington Beach California and what a nice feeling to not have any pressure on the second run just to get out there and do what you do and know that it’s all good our Corgi Cattle Dog mix super-quick that long body working through those leaves and through the course again clean everyone Wow and even faster time 31 3 2 just to rub it in huh yeah just to rub it in that wound a little bit make it a little bit better there you go well I’ll be heading to the national championship finals in st. Louis so of all the events that we have featuring today there are your first winners of the day and the first to get invited to the national championship finals from this Western Regional Championship so congratulations Keith heiling Cisco you’re heading to st. Louis again you
