Traditional vs Modern Puppy Training – Vote Below!!!
welcome back to the bluegrass and this
beautiful December day it’s about 38
degrees and there’s 10 days before
Christmas so on behalf of myself and my
staff and my whole family we would like
to wish everyone out in YouTube land a
Merry Christmas now what we were doing
earlier we were out walking on the farm
doing one of our normal farm adventure
walks and of course we were had some
dogs that we had to do some gunfire
introduction to and stuff and we were on
our way back up to the trailer to load
the four-wheelers and Eli was like hey
you want to answer an email question and
I was like well sure if you’ve got a
good one and he said I’ve got a perfect
one now back up there you lied a little
bit your babies so the email question
that Eli has decided we should answer
today is when we get a fair amount and
that is whether or not a person has to
do food work with a puppy to end up with
the doll go to come be still and have
good manners okay
and the answer to that is a resounding
note that when I just bent down there
and those two puppies came to me one of
those two puppies is here for you know
my normal food work program the stuff
that you see me doing all the time where
I’m giving them rewards for doing the
small challenge course and stuff and the
other is on a raw diet and so his owner
wanted to do a little bit more of a you
know non-food work based program and I
kind of stick with some traditional
training so what we’re going to do is
we’re going to go up to the small
challenges course and I’m gonna walk
both of those dogs I’m gonna do my
normal vocabulary work they’ve each been
here about how long you like two and a
half weeks about two and a half weeks
one of them has been doing just straight
traditional training the other has been
doing my normal food work progression
and so I’m going to show you as we walk
along the course you know how they’re
doing and so what we’re going to
vocabulary we’ll work on our small
challenges and then I’ll let you guys
decide vote below which of the puppies
is on the food work program and which of
the puppies is on the traditional
training program so I hope you enjoy it
alright well let’s put these two methods
to the test now we’ll start off with
grizzly oh come on grizzly now sometimes
you guys will hear me call grizzly bear
and the reason is is that Grizzlies
owner Lawrence has an older dog it’s
also a black German Shepherd named bear
and he came here when he was a puppy and
so I kinda you know I’m getting to that
Adelbert
stage’ life and so I get a little
confused with the name sometimes so
don’t hold me to it if I call him by a
couple of different names all right so
this is grizzly Oh Grizzlies about 16
weeks old been here about two and a half
weeks and he’s a pretty biddable dog now
he’s a German Shepherd he’s gonna be
real big
so like when we’re doing the course
you’ll notice we kind of go slower than
we do with some of the other dogs
because you know these dogs a little bit
fragile got to be real careful with them
when they’re young but all in all he’s
doing pretty well and you’ll notice I’m
able to walk in with slack lead he’s
familiar with the course he understands
the vocabulary weight good easy very
nice
oh it’s a very good dog very good oh my
gosh good dog very nice good now these
black German Shepherds we don’t see them
a whole lot
wait but when we do see them easy
they’re usually pretty biddable dogs
they used to be quite a bit more popular
like in the 80s and 90s oh my gosh now I
just think there’s a couple of kind of
predominant bloodlines that pop up but
either way you see this is why people
like German Shepherds good-looking dogs
wait stay and you know they learn pretty
quickly I mean that’s not bad for a 16
week old dog so I want you guys to think
about what you just saw there and so
write down your initial impression as to
whether this dog has been trained using
traditional methods or my normal food
work progression okay and then we’ll get
Lily the golden retriever oh you choose
my everybody’s gonna love you yes the
order will get Lily and we’ll give you a
chance to evaluate her performance now
we will walk this almost white Golden
Retriever puppy now her name is Lily and
Lily is a Polish golden retriever now
you guys know I sometimes give folks a
hard time because they’ll email me or
they’ll call me and be like Stoney I
have an English lab I’d like to bring to
you for training and so inevitably I ask
one say well you know hey where was he
born and they say something along the
way
of Lima Ohio well the guy that owns this
dog is from Chicago so he calls me and
he says Stoney I’ve got a Polish golden
retriever I’d like for you to train and
so of course what do I say I say Oh a
Polish golden retriever where was it
born and he was like Poland I was like
what and he’s like yeah man me and my
wife got on an airplane and we went to
Poland and picked up a puppy and brought
it back to the States
easy then I was like really and so what
happened was he had had no dog and he
really liked this bloodline and the only
place he could find it was in Poland and
so by gosh he went to Poland and got the
dog that he wanted so I can’t blame him
I you know I’m a kind of guy that
appreciates effort and so you know if a
person will go to Poland to get a dog
well I most certainly who will welcome
him to come to Winchester to talk
trained all right so Lily’s awesome
awesome dog and in the dog business
there’s very few things at my age that
you know it’s a first to me but this is
literally the first time I’ve ever
worked with a Polish golden retriever
stay so there we have it guys a Golden
Retriever puppy it’s about 18 or 19
weeks old maybe a little older maybe 20
weeks and the German Shepherd puppy it’s
about 16 weeks old now I want you guys
to vote below and tell me which one of
those two dogs is being trained with the
traditional method and which one of
those two dogs is being trained with my
normal food work progression
