University relieves stress during finals with dogs
dogs games and coloring books might
bring you back to your childhood but
Ohio State uses them to allow students
to relieve their stress during finals
week paws for paws is one such
University stress reliever and according
to Alicia Perkins an outreach and
engagement assistant for planning
administration at Ohio State this has
been going on for quite some time
you’ve been doing paws for paws for
about five years
and so we bring the dogs in during
finals for fall and spring and it’s been
going on for five years the dogs come
from groups such as therapy dogs
international therapy dogs international
is an organization that tests and
insures dogs to go on stress-relieving
visits to schools hospitals nursing
homes and other stressful situations
Karen Smith is an evaluator for the
organization anything that where people
are stressed a dog’s gonna help therapy
dogs international is one of many groups
that brings dog to campus other groups
include pet partners 4h Pet Pals canine
wonder dogs and Sunnyside therapy dog
training Perkins said the dogs can be
found at Thompson as well as the Fisher
College of Business
both Perkins and Smith said the feedback
to the dogs has been largely positive
for one complaint I have a hundred
people saying that they want the dogs
and more dogs
Perkins also said that the university
offers stress relief spas filled with
coloring books and board games to help
students take a break from the stress of
