VetsOnCall – Dog Behavior, Cat Pneumonia: A Day’s Work
[Music]
I’m dr. Linda Randall and I am the owner
of cloverleaf Animal Hospital nice we
have a large sporting dog component with
the small animal practice so we have a
higher percentage of sporting dogs than
the average veterinary hospital but the
large majority of our clients are pet
animals it is just very very exciting to
be a small animal veterinarian because
every single day you get clients that
become part of our family
hi morning come on in I’m seeing Mickey
Fowler today and his owners are bringing
him in because we need to reevaluate his
chronic pneumonia
Mickey’s symptoms were constant trying
to blow his nose and clean his lungs out
and he was having a hard time breathing
it was heavy breathing but had been has
been a reoccurring issue with him
this is his chest and this is his heart
what we’re looking at ours lungs and you
see how gray this area is right in this
area it appears to me as if he probably
has a pneumonia untreated pneumonia is a
very serious thing and a very tragic
thing because also sometimes they can
get to the point where we can’t clear it
up so what we’re going to do is we’re
going to give you a call a few days when
the bacterial results come back from the
culture and sensitivity and I’ll review
the results at that time with you on the
call it can be a burden for an owner
when they have an animal that they love
that needs care month after month day
after day Thursday I think that we can
lessen the financial burden if we do
this preventive care

AMD I’m here to see dr. Randall
I brought Gilda and Pico we started with
dr. Randall about two and a half years
ago just trying to find something to
kind of deal with behavioral issues so
he’s doing agility right now aren’t you
yeah and he’s doing really well I think
so to find out that a little dog could
love training and agility just really
opened my eyes
I mean I’ve highly recommend it
especially for a dog like Pico the dog
sports were a natural outflow of
obedience because I’m also working with
behavior in agility they learn how to
work and how to learn it’s it’s just
fascinating
he loves to Train he loves to work he
doesn’t care who’s around or where he is
as long as he can play I don’t know that
I had that I would have gotten into
agility with Pico dr. randall’s taught
me everything I know about clicker
training and positive reinforcement
training that’s it she’s been a huge
influence and your vet can be so much
more than just your yearly vaccinations
you’ve got to have a good relationship
with your veterinarian

hi mr. Fowler this is dr. Randall
calling and I have Mickeys results for
you from his culture
he now has Bordetella and Pseudomonas so
I do need to add to the medication he is
already on not all pneumonias are that
serious but mickey’s is we already know
that he has a chronic intermittent
problem and so as we look to his future
do we expect that to change
no but do we hope to keep it better
control perhaps than it has been yes
left ear is just a little more sensitive
we have quite a range of clientele as to
all veterinary hospitals but so
frequently the pet owners become our
friends that to me is a large part of
veterinary medicine and it feeds me
